(CNN) - Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as "Joe the Plumber," has taken steps toward launching a bid for a House seat in Ohio.
Wurzelbacher filed candidacy papers with the Federal Election Commission on Friday, indicating he would run as a Republican from the state's 9th district.
"Joe the Plumber" emerged on the national stage during the 2008 presidential campaign when he pressed then-Sen. Barack Obama over his plan for small business growth. The then-Republican presidential ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin quickly capitalized on the exchange. Wurzelbacher, who it was later revealed was not a licensed plumber, appeared at campaign events with the GOP nominees.
Since the election he has attempted to capitalize on his notoriety and wrote a book in 2009 called, "Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream."
The Democratic-leaning northern 9th district includes parts of Toledo. On the Democratic side, Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Marcy Kaptur will face each other in an incumbent-versus-incumbent primary, the result of Congressional redistricting.

Gotta say, you are the only one with grape stain on your upper lip......
Vote him in 9th district. He's the new kind of republican. What a farce.
Couldn't dio any worse than the group that is in there now! Including the pres.
Will he bring his gun to his rallies? He is a bagger isn't he?
He's about as qualified as Christine O'Donnell, but she was much easier on the eyes...
Hey – if Cain can get a PAC to pay for his book-selling adventures, why can't this idiot get his taxes paid for by the same idiots?
Great. Joe the Dumber.
I would like an answer. If the Koch brothers is Kansas can finance GOP Tparty politicians in Wisconsin why can't I vote for Ohio politicians in fairness?
Once someone gets that 15 minutes of fame, it seems awfully hard for them to give it up. We can only hope that the average Ohioan has more sense that to feed in to this clown's attempt at regaining another 15 minutes.
Nice! So the unlicensed, unbonded, uninsured, unqualified poster boy for re-regulation is back. Fail.
Good for him! There's no better way to learn that the policies you support are unworkable nonsense than putting yourself in a position for them to blow up in your face! Keep that plunger handy, Joe!
Typical hate responces from liberals.... As always.
who would donate money to this clown? But apparently this is the face of the Republicans – stupid.
It's not likely he's spent his time getting an education or learning math.
Regarding his statement to Barack Obama about intending to buy the plumbing firm that employed him, Wurzelbacher later said that the idea of buying the company was discussed during his job interview six years prior.[6] According to MSNBC and Fox News, court records show that Wurzelbacher made $40,000 in 2006.[16] Dun & Bradstreet's report estimated that A. W. Newell Corporation, the full corporate name, had $510,000 in annual sales and eight employees.[43] As part of the background on McCain's use of "Joe the Plumber," several media outlets researched his professional plumbing credentials. One Toledo Blade article stated, "Mr. Wurzelbacher said he works under Al Newell’s license, but according to Ohio building regulations, he must maintain his own license to do plumbing work. He is also not registered to operate as a plumber in Ohio, which means he’s not a plumber." "Mr. Joseph [business manager of the local union] said Mr. Wurzelbacher could only legally work in the townships, but not in any municipality in Lucas County or elsewhere in the country."[44] Wurzelbacher has since stated that he is no longer employed at Newell.
This guy is something else. He doesn't even know what he does for a living. He lied about his employment, lied about his taxes. Not too bright. He should stay home and not embarrass himself nationally again.
Glad to see another clown from 2008 trying to get in on the fun of the how many bozos can fit in a VW.
Wasn't this guy unlicensed and untrained and unanything back then?
Good for you Joe. The less Harvard lawyers we have in Washington the better. Plus you were the one that exposed the real BHO for what he is – a RE-DISTRIBUTION Socialist. This country thanks you for that – if only we had listened 3 years ago. I am pretty sure that the DC elitists that are dumping on you would have a tough time turning a wrench.
joe you were unlicensed, unbonded, uninsured, unqualified.you should fit right in.
Oh, I thought he'd said he wasn't a Republican. Well, OK for him as long as he pays his back child support and taxes.
Show us your Birth Certificate with your real name, show us your paid taxes and show us your Plumbing License!!!
And we were wondering who was going to take Palin's spot as the new right wing lunatic.
In civics class they told me that "anyone can get elected to congress" I am starting to believe iit. If he has the support of his corner of the nation I say go for it. If his district would elect him they would not have sent anyone good anyway. There are just some districts like that. The founding fathers new this well.that is why there are so many distticts.
jeezus...just when i thought the wacko political picture couldnt get any wackier...well it just did with this clown.
"When your system is clogged with crap you need a plumber."
"Vote for Joe "The Plumber"Wurzelbacher and flush the crap out of Washington."
Has Joe paid his taxes? I don't know. Has Timothy Geitner paid his? How about Charlie Rangel?
