Top Republican rips Holder handling of 'Fast and Furious' investigation

Washington (CNN) - A top House Republican charged with investigating a now-discredited federal gunrunning operation has accused Attorney General Eric Holder of actively obstructing Congress' oversight function and damaging his own credibility as a top national law enforcement officer.

In a letter to Holder publicly released Monday, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-California, said the attorney general has made "numerous statements" about Operation Fast and Furious that "have eventually been proven to be untrue."

The burden is on Issa to provide proof. At this stage, this is nothing more than a fishing expedition with regards to finding something to hang on Holder. If Holder did lie or lose control his department, than he obviously needs to go, but until then, Issa needs to stick to the investigation. If all he ends up doing is make a bunch of appearances on FOX screaming about corruption without any substantive proof, than all this will be another giant waste of money by GOP members of the House desperate to show they have done something, anything over the current term.

@The Real Tom Paine – what planet are you on????? I saw Eric Holder's response when asked when he knew about operation Fast and Furious – he responded something to the effect that he only knew of it a couple of weeks ago. One of many inconsistencies! Eric Holder is another part of the infamous Chicago machinery – don't expect anything but lies, excuses, blame others, etc. That's all any of them know!

What about that program that Duh Duh Duh-bya ran......"Wide Receiver"? The same thing and the same results. I guess Issa isn't interested in drumming up that!

Issa made a number of unfounded allegations on Fox. It is too bad that this is a witch hunt and not a fact finding investigation.

Issa is a racist jerk with no ethics whatsoever. Either show proof of conviction against Mr. Holder or go to hell. Hopefully, I hope its the latter of the two.

What is that top Republican doing about the job situation? We need jobs. The rest of this stuff is just nonsense, and Issa is the head of all nonsense. Once again, we need jobs. What the heck is Congress doing for the three figures we pay them, along with all those extra special benefits? Good grief, no wonder they're polling in the low teens. They're useless.

Issa is a world-class clown. The last time the GOP in the House became consumed with partisan threats of impeachment was when they went after Bill Clinton. Many, including Lindsey Graham, said they spent two years working on getting Clinton. It was their top priority. During those two years Osama bin Laden was plotting to attack the United States. There were no Congressional hearings on credible intelligence that this was about to happen. Hate-filled Republican cared only for the headlines and some crazy Arab in the Middle east was not going to do it for them.

Issa is just like his predecessors. The country is in the worst economic downturn in modern history ... and this is what he thinks he should be doing.

Please send me the address of his 2012 opponent so I can contribute.

The proof is is the pudding? Hey lets talk about something that will help Americans; like, Ron Paul Feel the Revolution? Americans need jobs, Americans want the economy to improve this article is more distraction from what is happening on Wall Street and all across the country at the Federal Reserve Banks. Americans are hurting, we don't nee to be distracted with the AG and this silly operation. If the war on drugs was ended like Ron Paul wants to do, we would not be talking about guns going into Mexico. I live in El Paso and know that the drug cartels were put out of business if the drug laws in this country were changed. Prohibition did not work, it is time we end the war of drugs, that would solve all of the gun issues.

  10. logical thought

5 questions a citizen might want answered:

    5. What changes has the DOJ made in order to ensure that any program/operation will not end in the transfer of weapons to Mexico?
    4. Are there any other programs/operations that are currently allowing weapons to leave he US?
    3. What organizational structure is and was in place to review and authorize the elements of investigative programs to ensure the legality, safety, and effectiveness of those programs?
    2. What are the items in the above review that would require you or senior DOJ staff to be aware of, and approve of the program?
    1. Who conceived F&F, and who authorized initiation of F&F? (follow-on, "was that within the policy guidelines of the DOJ?")

I think that the American public has the right to understand this, at the very least to ensure that something like this cannot/will-not happen again. Issa, give these questions to Holder prior to his visit to testify, and then we can move forward to address any command and control issues within the DOJ. From these, we can ferret out whether or not DOJ was doing it's collective job.

  11. A keen observer

Issa needs to clean up his own life before accusing others of wrongdoing. Issa has a pretty checkered past including several criminal indictments. While he managed to skate on the charges, it is usually true that where there's smoke, there's fire. Issa needs to end his witch hunts and starting working on creating jobs. Isn't job creation what the republican idiots ran on for the last election? It is time to throw this bum out!

What point are you trying to make, besides name calling. Do you have proof that Mr. Holder is lying? If so, please enlighten us, or better yet go tell the Congressman.

By the way, appears you are not afraid to tar and feather Mr. Holder and not the Bush Administration's gun running up your eyes, put on your reading glasses and see the truth...).,0,6104103.story) from the LA Times before you start with the name calling and spreading ignorance, pleas check your facts.

  13. Happy Birthday FOX NEWS!! 15 years of fair and balance reporting, #1 in cable news!

I didn't think it was possible but we may have found somebody even more incompetent and clueless than Obama, namely Eric Holder. American citizens have died, and will continue to die, because of guns these clowns gave known killers. THAT is called being an accessory to murder. Holder should be tried and jailed for his crimes.
