Sen. Coburn treated for prostate cancer

(CNN) - Sen. Tom Coburn is recovering from a procedure to treat prostate cancer, according to his spokesman.

"Dr. Coburn underwent a procedure this week to treat an early stage incidence of prostate cancer. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to his full-time duties later this month," Coburn spokesman John Hart said.

The Oklahoma Republican, who is serving his second term in office, is a medical doctor who specialized in obstetrics before embarking on his political career. He is up for re-election in 2012.

Ugh. If he had done what I had done for PC, he's suffering right now.

Get well, Senator. You're gonna need your strength for the Sen.Ensign investigation, provided Rep. Issa doesn't come to his senses stop his impeachment witch hunt on the Obama administration.

I know men who've live with prostate cancer for 20 years - guess he has GREAT medical benefits. Shame we don't.

I wish him well and a speedy recovery. These illnesses require expensive procedures and good health care insurance. I know the Congress has access to good health care and wish our Congress would work cooperatively to ensure Americans get the same. Survival in a first-tier, civilized nation should not be a function of wealth. The President's health care plan should not be removed, it should be revised to do something more than gain political points for politicians.

Odd that there would be space for comments on this personal issue when there is so much going on in our country and the world?
I don't like Coburn's politics or how he conducts himself, but I do wish him and his family the best through this personal ordeal.

The reality is this: sickness and death are life's greatest equalizers. Leftist, rightist, red staters, blue staters, it doesn't matter, will all face the same fate. My point: life is so much sweeter when you love your neighbor as yourself.

Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.
He's fortunate to have excellent health insurance and access to the best medical treatments, and the ability to take time away from his job as needed. There are so many who don't have those benefits.

Isn’t this one of the guys that voted against Health Care Reform? Too bad he has insurance. Imagine what would have happened to him if he didn’t have insurance because he couldn’t afford to purchase it.

If he was one of those folks who could afford to buy insurance but choose not to do so, and now decides that he wants to buy insurance because he has cancer, he would be denied coverage because he has a pre-existing condition.

Given that he is one of those folks that voted against Health Care Reform, I hope his Insurance Company drops him when it’s time for him to renew his coverage so that he can see what ordinary Americans have to endure. Maybe then he will change his position.
