Obama: 'I'm a fourth-quarter player'

(CNN) - President Barack Obama compared his re-election bid to a game of basketball, to make the point to Democratic supporters that he's a strong closer.

The president made his comments Tuesday night at the second of two campaign fundraisers in Florida. NBA all-star Grant Hill, hall of famer Patrick Ewing, and former all-star and current head coach Doc Rivers attended the event, which was held at a private residence near Orlando, Florida.

"I was mentioning to some of the basketball players who were here that this is like the second quarter, maybe the third, and we've still got a lot of work to do. But I want everybody to know I'm a fourth-quarter player," Obama said to applause, according to a transcript of the event released by the White House.

"So I don't miss my shots in the fourth quarter," added Obama.

The most recent national polling indicates that the president's approval rating is in the mid-40s, and that a slight majority of Americans don't think Obama deserves to be re-elected in 2012.

- CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

I might be a bit shoddy on my History, but i think Reagan had similar numbers when running for his 2nd term.

There's alot of doom and gloom out there among Dems... In order for them to win they need to stick by their guy and stop the in-fighting. Obama is a strong debater and has a way of connecting with the electorate during his campaigns DON'T count him out just yet.

    He's got my vote.

He is someone who loves this country and has a deep desire to help the American people.
The GOP hates this country, its people and are only out for power.

That is NOT a tough choice to make.

    "I want everybody to know I'm a fourth-quarter player" – Obama

I sure wish he would have told us that when we elected him to turn the economy and job creation around. If that were the case I think I may have voted for a first quarter player or a whole game player.

Did you hear how Harry Belafonte has knocked Herman Cain for wandering off the class warfare, welfare fraud, race baiting, poverty pimp plantation set up by the democrat liberals. It is hilarious. A person cannot have a mind of their own.

Don`t back down. Just stand firm on your principals-- it doesn`t seem to hurt the Republicans.

'I'm a fourth-quarter player' meaning that he doesn't care about failure in his first three terms as long as he campaigns well in his FINAL year?

Well, of course. He simply enjoys himself the first three quarters, then goes hard the last quarter in hopes that the coach (voters) put him in the next game.

I'd rather vote for Obama than any of those idiots on the right.......that said, I'm never voting again. Our system is corrupt to the core and I want no part of it.

►"…this is like the second quarter, maybe the third…”
I’m just observing how much – the RIGHT is being absurd
When they “shout” about 999 – and Obama-Cares too
And trust me; I believe – “…[we] still got a lot of work to do.”

    ►“But I want everybody to know – I'm a fourth-quarter player,"
And I also can become – one of your greatest “dragon-slayers”
What the RIGHT talks about – would NEVER stand on water!
"[And] I don't miss my shots – in the fourth quarter!!"

    GO-BAMA!!

The question isn't does Obama deserve to be re-elected. The question is does any of the current crop of GOP candidates deserve to be elected. The answer is a resounding NO!. Better a bad president than an insame one.

Then you better start heating up in the 3rd Q Mr. President. Your team is down by SOOO much right now, all your 4th Q rally might prove pointless unless you start picking up the slack RIGHT NOW!!

True THAT Mr. President, as was evidenced in 2008!
Everytime they thought they had you pinned down you shook the off like a master chess player or so much dust.
It's going to be an interesting battle in 2012. Let's keep up the pressure, stay fired-up and 'angry', and build up a cushion with 3-point shots to seal the win in the fourth quarter.
    Obama 2012.

Romney will have no chance in this election because of his faith. When the Pres needs to make a big life or death decision, of coarse his faith will come into play. Romney will be decieved in the end because of his cult like religion. If you are dumb enough to follow mormon logic, you cannot be President.
