Democrats: Don't discriminate against unemployed

Washington (CNNMoney) - A group of Senate Democrats sent a letter to a big job-hunting website this week, asking the company to quit running help-wanted ads from companies that bar the unemployed from applying for jobs.

Lawmakers said they've seen several examples of employers advertising jobs on CareerBuilder.com that say applicants "must be currently employed" to apply.

What kind of sick company runs a help wanted ad for ONLY employed people. Get real. This isn't Helping. What is the thinking behind this? Employeed people already have jobs. The unemployed need jobs. Yet these companies advertise for ONLY Employeed people? Isn't that discrimination?

Thanks to Democrats for caring about the unemployed. Other than standing with their hands out for those big checks from big corporations, republicans have done nothing.

I've managed businesses and have found that the most reliable new hires to stay on, and make it worth my expense to hire them, are those that are currently experiencing a period of long term unemployment. I have found that the unemployed are far more likely to jump ship and work for another company, than a new hire from another company or one who it recently unemployed.

try telling that to Herman Cain and other Republicans that claim most of the unemployed are that way because it is their own fault. Sure like in any other system you find slackers that try to get over but most of the UE are trying to find jobs, with many willing to take jobs that pay far below what they once made. And it's no suprise to me that the many that complain and condemn these people are gainfully employed themsleves, not knowing what it is to have to day in day out hunt for a job, have to make ends meet on an unemployment check. But that's typical of the "compassionate conservative". The audience was full of them once again who cheered when Cain made his statement

Of course they're saying that on CareerBuilder, etc. Part of the GOP/Wall Street/bigot goal here by throwing a gran old recession is to horribly improverish the minority population so they can be used as cheap menial labor happy to take whatever subsistence-living wage they can get so they can survive. Just look at the statistics showing that the minority population in the country is far FAR more horribly effected by the economic downturn and is showing a far higher incidence rate of unemployment etc. That was part of the end game. Now, all the GOP/Teatrolls/WAll Street/the rest of the bigots in the country have to do is institute "free market" policies that discriminate against the poor and unemployed and poof...they have a superficial argument that it's not intended to screw minorities but just economic class discrimination with some vague, trumped up, nice-sounding ideological justification complete with buzz words like "prodcutivity" and "efficacy" and "on the job training" and "free market." And oh, it's just an unfortunate side effect that such corproate policies for higher paying jobs "just happen to" have a disparate impact on minorities.

Amazing and a scandal. With such a high unemployment people are desperate to get back to work. Antisocial companies like the ones mentioned should be boycotted by all consumers.

Maybe it's a specialty field ......like who's gonna hire an unemployed Doctor, Dentist or Lawyer? Some people need to work to maintain a high security clearance etcetera.
