BLITZER'S BLOG: Perry, Romney and Reagan

(CNN) - What struck me most about Rick Perry’s verbal assault on Mitt Romney at the CNN Western Republican Debate in Las Vegas was its contrast to the way Ronald Reagan used to conduct himself during debates.

The late president would never have gone after a fellow Republican in such a direct, personal way. If Reagan were going to attack a fellow Republican on something like the alleged hiring of illegal immigrants for lawn service, he would have had his aides handle it. He would have personally stayed away from the charge.

Obama campaign keeps bulls-eye on Romney

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's re-election campaign wasted no time responding to front-runner Mitt Romney's performance at CNN's debate Tuesday night.

New Hampshire lobbying Nevada to move back caucus date

Concord, New Hampshire (CNN) - As all eyes turned to Nevada for a Republican debate Tuesday night, back in New Hampshire GOP leaders were laboring to raise the pressure on the Western state's Republican leadership to delay its caucus date.

The lobbying effort, which is taking place both publicly and behind-the-scenes, is directed at persuading Nevada to push back its caucus date by three days, from Jan. 14 to Jan. 17. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is in Nevada conducting negotiations with party officials hoping for them to push back their primary date, according to a national GOP source.

"He is a friendly fellow. He uses that kind of language. And he views all those folks on stage as colleagues, as fellow Republicans, and he speaks accordingly," said communications director Ray Sullivan on CNN's "American Morning."
