
Washington (CNN) - The head of the Republican National Committee is calling on President Barack Obama to return half a million dollars in fundraising Jon Corzine raised on the president's behalf, now that the former one term New Jersey governor's bankrupt brokerage firm is under investigation by the federal authorities.
"In light of the FBI Investigation into Jon Corzine's company, President Obama should immediately return the $500,000 that Corzine raised on his behalf," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, in a statement released Thursday.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire (CNN) - A group of unaligned New Hampshire Republican officials held a press conference Thursday to defend a much-derided speech given by Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the state late last week.
The speakers said Perry's speech had been well-received by the audience, and all expressed shock and dismay at how Perry had been ridiculed for his speaking style that night.

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner downplayed the influence of Washington's most notable anti-tax crusader, calling Grover Norquist "some random person" at his weekly press conference Thursday.
Asked about Norquist, who heads the powerful Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) group, Boehner said, "it's not often I'm asked about some random person in America and what I think."

(CNN) – Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman isn't letting up on his barrage of Mitt Romney-aimed insults. A web video released Thursday is the latest of Huntsman's efforts to paint the former governor of Massachusetts as a serial flip-flopper.
The spot opens with coverage of public criticism toward Romney for changing positions. The news clips are followed by video of the GOP frontrunner addressing the issues of immigration and abortion where he appears to reverse his stance–over a period of time. One clip reflects a younger Romney, compared with some from the current campaign.

Washington (CNNMoney) - White House budget director Jacob Lew said Thursday he's optimistic that Congress will avoid any more threats of federal shutdowns later this month over a 2012 budget.
"After living through April and July, any reasonable person would have to say there's risk" of a shutdown crisis, said Lew, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget in a forum sponsored by Politico. "(But) I generally don't believe that Congress wants to be in that kind of a showdown. I'm optimistic they'll work through these issues and make the right choice."

The House Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on oversight and investigations voted 14 to 9 in favor of issuing the subpoenas for internal documents regarding the decision to issue more than half a billion dollars in federal loan guarantees in 2010 to Solyndra, which later filed for bankruptcy.

The Franklin and Marshall College poll released Thursday in the battleground state, shows Obama ahead of potential rivals Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum, but the results are closest when the president is paired with Romney.

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry said he was neither on drugs nor drunk during a speech in New Hampshire Friday, as some observers and critics have suggested.
An edited clip of the speech, in which an enthusiastic Perry laughs and jokes with the audience, went viral on YouTube, prompting some to suggest he was on pain medication for a past back surgery or under the influence of alcohol.

(CNN) – Curt Anderson, a newly hired consultant with Texas Gov. Rick Perry's presidential campaign, denied any involvement in the leaking of allegations that rival candidate Herman Cain was accused of sexual harassment in the 1990s.
"I didn't know anything about this, so it's hard to leak something you don't know anything about," Anderson said Thursday on CNN's "American Morning." "I didn't know anything about this, I didn't leak it."

(CNN) - As Americans learn more about Occupy Wall Street, they are becoming more supportive of the movement's positions, according to a new poll from ORC International.
The survey, taken Oct. 28-31, shows more adult Americans saying they have heard of Occupy Wall Street than when the question was asked in early October. Sixty-four percent of respondents now say they've heard of the movement, compared to only 51% in the earlier poll.
