Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner says he and President Barack Obama have a "pretty good relationship," but he also criticized Obama for fomenting what Boehner called "class warfare" in the political debate over spending, taxes and job creation.
In an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week" program, Boehner defended Republican opposition to efforts by Obama and Democrats to increase taxes on wealthy Americans as part of deficit reduction and job creation measures.

One thing I fault Bohner for is not starting the impeachment process of this 'Failure in Chief'.
Hidden chains of oppression? Where the hell did you dig that up? You must be reading your Texas state fact book again. Is that why Texas has the most uninsured residents in the entire US? Those hidden chains of oppression?
Class warfare is just another Tea Party buzz word that all these fools keep saying and can't or won't admit that much of Obama's issues are just a hangover from 8 years of Bush cronyism......all this talk about debt and unemployment can ber traced back to 2004 when the banking industry ran unchecked, giving loans out to anyone with a pulse. Then when housing market blows up which was forecast by many inside the banking industry as far back as 2006, you expect this president to fix it in 3 years. Don't delude yourself and further, don't look to the likes of any of the present GOP talking heads to fix it either. Not a single one these trash talkers has a plan nor has anyone of them mentioned the impact of countries like Greece and Italy as it relates to the issues plaguing the US. Read about it. It's been in a newspaper or two.
Boehner is laughable. He assumes that America doesn't realize that he and the Republicans have done absolutely nothing for the middle class in decades. And his wanting to push more tax cuts for the richest 1% in hopes they will produce jobs is flawed in transparently weak ways: 1) Trickle down theory never worked 2) It hasn't worked in the past 10+ years since the massive Bush tax credits were implemented but yet Boehner wants to throw more billions into that black hole and 3)The rich pay more because the rich make more – basic math, Boehner.
Same old deceptive statement. The top 1% do pay 38% of taxes but MAKE over 50% of the income. SO proportionately they should pay the same % of taxes as the percent of income they make. You'll never hear a Republicn talk about the effective rate they pay only the dollars. Even Warren Buffet admits he pays less of a percentage of his income in taxes than his secretary. Quit playing us as stupid Republicans and pay your fair share!!!
Republicans are the ones using class warfare. They have chosen to care about a very small group of super wealthy people, many who are corrupt, many who are polluters who don't care about the affects and harm they cause. President Obama has accomplish much good without any republicans helping this country. Democrats and President Obama have been the only ones helping people in America to have better health care, better job propects. They are the only ones who will ever help people in this country. The GOP has turned their backs on people who are not powerful and super wealthy.
Boehner and republicans are causing class warfare they hate president Obama so want american to suffer.
Vote Boehner,Cantor, McConnell and the rest of republicans out of the office 2012.
Middle Class and poor american will vote these no do congressman out of the office.
sounds like the speech the tail of two
cities.
Four and the Door. You are so clearly a red voter its untrue. Heres a couple of statistics that explain why the rich should pay more:-
1) About 10 % of the Employed earn over $500K p.a .Many of those people have dividend or interest income or capital gains taxed at 15% which is lower than many earners below $500K pay on a lot of thier income. And explains why billionaire buffet only pays 17 %!!
2) The CBO recently published a report showing a wealth gain over the last 30 years. The top 1% had gained anywhere between 4.5 to 15 times more than the middle class... = class warfare favoring the rich.
3)The average middle class tax payer earns somewhere between $37,500 to $50,000 p.a and they and those below the top 1 % earners pay 62% of INCOME TAXES, if your 38% is correct Hmmm means 2/3rds of the 99% of workers pay most income tax .
Please note that "Income tax" excludes any amounts of dividend taxes and capital gains taxes or also of course corporate taxes where we give back over 10 years $40bn to the highly profitable big oil!!
4) Sales taxes or VAT are well over 15% in most of the Western developed nations so American taxes overall on the wealthy are, when you take those into account and Dividends treated as income and capital gains outside US mostly taxed @30 % Then the rich and corporates are the ones running class warfare.
The current reasons for the US recession ( and around the globe) was a lack of control over banks and the Mortgage backed securities fiasco. Obama is not the cause of 9% unemployment per se the global economic downturn and US recession is.
The debt commission to be effective is going to have to be Simpsom Bowles like in amount and content, nothing else gets the required saving or revenues to long term address the national debt and a speeding up of the economic recovery in the US and elsewhere. and also avoid another debt downgrade
Please give me more facts and not sound bite rhetoric! Often unsupported by data in your E-mails in the overall context of this countries dilemma and current crisis. Tax reductions in a recession increase debt as they often take 1 to 2 years to feed in and give 1:40 per buck spent as opposed to $ 1.60 for each $ spent on say unemployment benefits. By the way we can save $104bn p.a by getting out of Afghanistan. Thats 1.04 tr over 10 years.
Regards,
Hodgson .
It is impressive how the President keeps his cool when the do nothing Congress spouts nonsense and insults! To even sit at the same table trying to engage with a person like Boehner who is so loaded with envy and the stated refusal to work for 99% of the people is a strong commitment of the President to try again and again to include the GOP. Too bad that since the President was sworn in, the GOP/TP have not come up with ANYTHING useful. If it was me, I am afraid; I could not stand to have these “creators” in the house!
that's all he has. A complete fool. We can do better than this, We've tried ameture and it didn't work, now let's try someone with some common sense
Republicans are wrong to wage it on the middle class.
The Republicans were the FIRST ones to cry class warfare and now they want to turn it around and say the President is practicing it? What a dirty political game these GOPers play!
The middle class has been the target of class warfare for years. The GOP thinks that by cutting taxes they are helping the middle class, but while the middle class gets a few extra bucks in their paychecks a couple times a month it is not really enough to help them, the wealthy walk away with thousands and hundreds of thousands. If the GOP cutting taxes would have helped our economic problems we would never have had a recession. Trickle down economics does not work! For the upteenth time, IT DOES NOT WORK and it has never worked. This is why Reagan had to raise taxes 11 times. Enough already – try something that actually helps the middle class. GOP = the middle class killers.
As the Republicans in the house think, the rich should not pay more tax because of job creation. Where are the jobs Bering created by the rich on the last 6 years? Over sea? For sure it is not here.
Politicians should change the talk to action and do something for the money we are paying them.
Obama is right for pushing class warfare because it is an issue that is real. Just because people are not fighting on the streets does not mean that the rich and the poor are in agreement. Boehner just does not see the differences because he is blinded by the corporate and wealthy contributions that are made to the Republicans. But mark my words....if Congress, and the President (either current or future) don't get their act together, there will be a revolution that will make Occupy Wall Street look like a Sunday picnic.
"Reducing Obama's inflated 2011 federal budget by $100 billion helps every one of us."
FALSE. Government spending is essential during economic downturns to offset decreased private spending. This is proven Keynesian economics. It works, unlike deregulation and tax cuts for the filthy rich favored by the GOBP deathcult.
Obumer hub nobs with the rich all the time, where is all of the democrats complaints on that.
Energy cost are the real problem, if a Republican was in office all you liberals would be screaming about oil prices, where are you at now. It is ok under a democrat to have high oil prices, all of you liberals are hypocrites.
The Speaker is feeling the heat even if he says "It's been frosty" around there. Being on the wrong side fighting the middle class seems to be wearing on him. As it should all the "NO" sayers. No more hidden warfare Mr. Speaker!! Out into the light!! Much harder to push your agenda where ALL can see.
Hears an example of teapublican cost cuting at the middle class exspense. Rnc wants Tampa hotels to cut their convention rates. Hotel operators said the rates they plan to charge and the booking fee were specified in contracts with the Tampa bay host committee for the august 2012 event. But the teapublican party has since replaced its convention planning staff, which now wants the hotels to cut their prices that hasn't gone down well with the hoteliers who met this week to air their complaints . They say none of the hotels asked for their peak rates and aren't inclined to lower them now. A spokesman for the. Gop. Committee said , it can be worked out. Maybe like the buget deal in congress. I'd run them out of town. What a bunch of losers,I bet the hoteliers arent going to vote teapublican.
Boehner wants us to lay down so the Koch Bros. (Cain's Idols) and other like them can trample our middle class to dust.
Can't wait to vote!
Class warfare ? I don't think anyone has accused the robber barons of class .... quite the opposite actually.
When people complain about " all the liberal posts" they are reading. I wonder if they were to stop and think they themselves might be a little off to the right. That would explain there view of a moderate comment. That's what has happened fair and balanced turned into black-and-white!!
Okay, okay, you got me. I, a member of the dwindling middle class am GUILTY of wanting corporations and the rich to pay more taxes. Their numbers have reached record levels, they have made stunning profits over the past 18 months, and yes, they just might hire a few of us (sans retirement and health benefits, naturally). The poor and middle calasses NEED HELP. If that is class warfare Boehner, you got me.
Know, though- my "war" on the rich is in direct response to their GENOCIDE on the young, the poor, the old, the middle class and OUR environment. It is you guys who are in the minority, and you who have the most to lose by backing the 1%. Think about that.

Hodgson, I agree with your facts but not your conclusion. Capital gains are taxed at 15% because these are investments that create jobs and help the economy. Guaranteed if you raise that tax, people will be more hesitant to make capital investments and the jobless will be fighting over fewer jobs. So because of envy that people have more money than you, you prefer to take a win-win arrangement and make it a lose-lose? Who do you think loses more, the wealthy or the unemployed? I'll give you a hint. It will not be the wealthy.
