Friend of Cain accuser recounts allegations

(CNN) - A longtime friend of one of Herman Cain's unnamed accusers tells CNN that Cain dangled a job promotion in front of the accuser at the same time he "made her very uncomfortable" with sexual "innuendo and overtures."

This woman told CNN she spoke extensively with her friend about Cain's conduct in 1998 at the time the accuser was allegedly being harassed by Cain while they both worked at the National Restaurant Association.

Cain has vehemently denied committing sexual harassment while he headed the association.

The friend tells CNN the accuser would sometimes "come home in tears, and it would all come pouring out how upset she was."

The friend, who recounted her conversations with the accuser during a telephone interview with CNN on Tuesday, asked that her name not be used because the accuser has decided not to come forward publicly and revealing her name could help identity the accuser.

According to the friend, the accuser worked in government relations for the restaurant association at the time of the incidents. Her friend described it as "well-known" in 1998 that Cain behaved badly. This friend recalls that the accuser only got up the nerve to talk to superiors about Cain after someone else had.

"When one started complaining, it helped the others," this woman says. "There definitely was somebody else [who had experienced the same behavior], and it led her to speak up."

At one point, the friend recounts, "They [association members] went to a conference in Chicago and I remember her coming back and mentioning some things that he had said, along with the innuendo of job promotion." In the end, the friend adds, the woman did not get the promotion. "I think she was up for something and didn't get it," she said, adding that her friend worried it was because she had rebuffed Cain.

Eventually, the Cain accuser went to her bosses and explained what was going on, the friend said.

"She didn't want to leave her job," her friend recalls. "They gave her options. They offered her money. She didn't ask for money. It seems like the Restaurant Association was saying, 'Let's get control of this.' "

Ultimately, the friend said, the accuser accepted a settlement offer from the National Restaurant Association and left her job.

Wow just wondering how much "smoke" has to come out before the family value republicans start to believe that it is not the fault of these women and that they all can't be telling lies. Oh wait lets deflect the blame on to Gloria Alred so we don't have to face the fact that Mr. Cain does not fit our "family values".
Who is next for the republican front runner, Newt? yes lets check his "family values".

Hey Dean – when you get to a point where you can't separate fact from reality, it's time to stop posting on message boards. Do us all a favor: Back away from the keyboard – slowly now – attaboy! Now, go get that GED you've been putting off for so long. Maybe take a course in critical thinking or reasoning. Then, come back and dazzle us all with your brilliance.

In the meantime, if 4 separate accounts and more coming every day don't convince you that ole Hermie is a slimeball there probably isn't much hope for you...

So, it appears that this person discussed the case with a third party in violation of the terms of the payment. She also went to the newspapers. This is out of control.....someone will be sued.

@Dean. How does Obama get into this? How is Obama an idiot on this? People like you are making our Brand look stupid. We gifted Obama with easy 2008 after Mcain picked Sarah. Our leaders in the House and State Houses continue to gift him again with extreme decisions. I am surprised how Texas is shifting towards Blue due to bad State leadership. Let us be careful what we say and do as the public is much more enlightened than it were 5yrs ago.
    Facts and Logic matter.

Cain is a complete and utter fraud period. It just goes to show how stupid people are in this country to even consider this man for president. From is phony 9-9-9 pizza economy plan to his remarks on china working on nuclear technologies even though they have had nukes since the 60s. That being said Cain supporters and Obama supporters are about equal in intelligence.

true there is an idiot here but it's NOT Obama... But of course you guys will still try to pass this off as a far left wing attack even though a majority of the accusers claim to be Republicans. Stupid IS as stupid DOES!

All that's left to say is, "Dean, Dean, Dean" as I shake my head from side to side, feeling very sorry for you . . . Knowing your thoughts are not your own. You are what is known as a "Hostage of the Collective Assimilation Committee". (ACAC) Look it up!

Herman Cain, to me, is the type of personality that will not accept the fact(s) that his action towards several women were inappropriate.
Mr. Cain is now in a world of hurt and other than telling the truth or admitting his slimbag behavior. This man, who in my opinion, prior to this story, didn't even accept the fact that he is Black. Herman Cain has been fortunate to occupy positions of power in several organizations, and it is my belief that these power positions went to his head. He's most likely toast as a candidate for the Teapublicant nomination but more importantly, he now has to deal with his wife and his marriage.

At the time Cain wasn't the big target he is today.

Accepting the money to keep quiet is exactly what the money was for. Should have outed Cain/NRA and sued instead of whining about it now.

With 4 women known, there are probably dozens that he did this to. There must be at least one out there that gave into the pressure. It would be great if she could also "do the right thing" and come forward with a specific detailed account.

Dean, Dean, Dean, . . .-Did you sleep through the Bush/Cheney years? If you were awake, you would have known that "W" and his boss, Cheney, almost ruined America. Starting in 2007, the democrats put a stop to Bush's idiocy.
