Protesters 'occupy' Bachmann foreign policy speech

(CNN) - Protesters disrupted Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's foreign policy speech in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, on Thursday, causing Bachmann to briefly leave the stage until the disturbance was over.

About a dozen protesters stood up and delivered a coordinated message, in a call-and-response format, which drowned out the Minnesota congresswoman's remarks.

A group calling itself Occupy Charleston claimed credit for the disruption, but in a message on its website said Bachmann was not the target of the action.

"She is a representative of the institutional and legal corruption that has infected our country - a system of corruption that values profit over people and is driven by the financial interests of the few against the many," the message read.

One of the protesters chanted, "We have a message for Ms. Bachmann" and the line was repeated by the group in unison.

The noise level aboard the historic aircraft carrier USS Yorktown increased when Bachmann supporters yelled at the protesters to sit down but they continued, saying, "Blaming people that disagree with you, unpatriotic socialists… this does not help the American people."

The Occupy group chanted "We are the 99 percent" as they disembarked the aircraft carrier.

Bachmann appeared shaken as a police officer escorted her off the stage, but she returned a few minutes to finish her speech.

"Don't you just love the First Amendment? It's great, we have a great country and I want to thank you all for your understanding," she said.

How in the world did we take such a wrong turn that this woman is considered acceptable presidential material? We need to take a serious look at our values. Good grief.

This week has been spent trying to list all of Herman Cain's victims and Rick Perry's ridiculous performances. Republicans in Mississippi tried to make a fertilized egg a "person" – something even the Pope thought was too radical. Voters in Ohio reversed a ridiculous laws designed to harm workers and keep the rich rich. Keeping up with Michelle Bachman's stupid comments is a full-time job. Gingrich keeps trying to make us forget about his lack of morals and ethics. Losers? Look at the Republican line-up and honestly evaluate them...

Folks at the Occupy Wallstreet gatherings are doing what Americans everywhere should do – tell Wall Street and the Republicans (who helped them screw the middle class) that we've had enough. Rick, go on back to Fox News and get a fresh dose of blind hated... This about real people not Tea Baggers.

After all the unacceptable and disgusting behavior displayed by the members of this extremist group. A group that Rep. Bachman is very proud to say she is a member......I have no sympathy. This was the road that the extremist group has taken our politics. We will be seeing more and more of this until the Republican party reigns in their extremist fringe dogs.

Seems like when it's done against you, it's wrong, but when you do it, it's fine.

Here is how you know that the Tea Party was not grassroots: organization, porta-potties, insurances paid, a non-diverse crowd, stages, guest, etc.

Occupy – all types of people, no stages, no guests, etc.

Lost In Texas – you are joking, right? Republicans are patriotic to only one thing – greed. And as for Ms. Bachmann, I'm surprised anyone is still showing up to listen to her idiotic banter. She is a disgrace to her home state as well as the country as a whole. Hard to beleive this woman actually won any election. She certainly will not win this one.

Bachmann tries to sheild herself from those who disagree with her. She never answers questions and distorts the truth and history. She is a typical Republican.

Grow up Rickster. You sound like a typical threatned Republican that can only resort to comments that are either Homophobic, Bigoted, Hatfull, divisiveness, and/or hypocritic. Can't rely on facts so resort to name calling. Very classy, NOT.

America used to work The people had work. The system worked. Hey, EVEN the Congress used to work...(sometimes). God knows, it was far, far, far from perfect – but at least we all had some share in the struggles AND the rewards. But somewhere along the way, we lost our way. And now we seem to have an economy and a political system that works only for the rich. What they call "trickle down economics"... just leaves most of us out in the cold cold rain. We need to get back to what America was, and what it should be, and what it can be. Occupy Wall Street is no longer just a place called Zuccotti Park – Zuccotti Park is everywhere. You can try to pen us in, you can beat us and arrest us, you can mace and tear-gas us , and you can try to "permit" us to death....but you can't kill an idea. You can't keep down a people’s hopes and dreams for a better life.....a life with dignity and freedom....for us... for our kids. More power to Occupy Wall Street, as it spreads to every town and city – because OWS is us, and for us, and by us. It comes up from the grassroots, and it lifts us up in turn. With OWS America has found it’s voice, and that voice demands fairness and justice. This land IS our land! AND WE WANT IT BACK! ...We want our lives back!... We want our future back! ....So why not take some time, find a quiet place somewhere, and consider this: Each of us has only one brief chance...and many choices. It’s time to choose...and to act. If not now...then when? If not you....then who? You DO have the power my friend....and the choice is yours.
