(CNN) - Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head during a gun rampage in January, appeared in her first television interview late Monday night, clearly understanding the questions put to her but able to respond only in simple words.
"I cried," she told ABC's Diane Sawyer in response to a question about how she felt when her husband told her what had happened.

Gabby Gifford's interview with Diane Sawyer was very touching. A reminder that politics pale in comparison to a person's fight for life!
Giffords is an amazing person. None of the GOP presidential contenders can hold a candle to her, even during her recovery.
Beautiful, happy u a recovering!
Amen!! I've been praying for her ever since this took place that God would restore her and she would be back to normal! God is fatihful, all you have to do is believe in faith that He can do it! This is a miracle of God. She was shot in the head and survived yet people shot in other places didn't make it. If you don't believe in God, believe today!!
This lady has incredible strength and courage.
She was emminently more eloquent than Cain.
I am very happy to see her recovering so well.
