Third reason Pelosi can't debate Perry slips her mind

Washington (CNN) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declined Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry's debate invitation and poked a little fun at the Texas governor while she was at it.

"He did ask if I could debate here in Washington on Monday," Pelosi said, responding to a question about Perry's invitation. "It is my understanding that such a letter has come in. Monday I'm going to be in Portland in the morning and I'm going to be visiting some of our labs in the afternoon, that's two, I can't remember what the third thing is I'm going to be doing."

Pelosi was ribbing Perry for his recent debate gaffe when he couldn't recall the third government agency he would shut down if elected president during an awkward 54 seconds of air time.

Gov. Perry responded through his personal and campaign twitter accounts saying, "Something @NancyPelosi would like to forget: passing a 2k-page gov takeover of healthcare without reading it. American ppl haven't forgotten."

According the newspaper The Hill, Perry sent a letter to Pelosi saying, "I am in Washington Monday and would love to engage you in a public debate about my Overhaul Washington plan versus the congressional status quo. I think it would be a tremendous service to the American people to see a public airing of these differences," he continued. "Let the people decide. If Monday doesn't work, perhaps we could find a time in Iowa over the course of the next month to discuss these issues in front of the people of America's heartland."

Gov. Perry's Overhaul Washington plan includes cutting Congress to a part-time body.

Politics aside, just suggesting something so silly when he isnt even the nominee ( not that shoe would if he was) shows how stupid he is. Like why would she even do something like that....just because he asked? What about the other 8 people running for the nomination? So dumb

It is hardly disrespectful to obliquely poke fun at a "presidential candidate" who can't even be bothered to memorize his own talking points for a debate – or even write them on the palm of his hand!

republicans are like those dolts on talent shows that always think that they are the next great thing – while at the same time (in the real world) they resemble the emperor sans clothes.

    from the article:
"Something @NancyPelosi would like to forget: passing a 2k-page gov takeover of healthcare without reading it. American ppl haven't forgotten."
That sound bite of Spkr Pelosi saying that has to rank as one of the most extreme examples of taking words out of context in recent political memory. She was responding to a question about Republican complaints that they didn't know what was in the bill. Republicans didn't know what was in the bill because months before (June 2009) they had taken a grand stand in front of the media stating, "We will not be participating in health reform because we do not want to participate in the destruction of America." Or something to that grand effect.

Pelosi's cynical reply to a conservative reporter's question addressing the Republicans' complaint that they didn't know what was in the bill is now legendary. "They will have to pass it to find out what is in it." Touche, Madam Speaker.

It probably also includes not having a working President but just someone that sits in the Oval Office with his feet propped up all day. After all, these Repub/Tea Partiers don't believe in government so one has to wonder why they want to become part of it and, especially be President. Could it be the money and prestige?? Meanwhile, how does this belief serve the people?

  6. Romney, he changes his positions as often as his magic underwear.

This country really does need a Republican in office to finally f us up but good. We need the as punishment for all of our ills against the world.

What a face. Perry looks like he’s fixin’ to break so more wind with his brain flatulence.

Good Job GOP. You went from a criminal REPUBLICAN administration led by 2 Liars and Mass Murderers (President Adolf Bush and Co-President Heinrich Cheney), to a sad bunch of loon imbeciles (Christ Nazis Included) – with Perry, this illiterate redneck driving the 3-wheeled bus.

First: Rick Perry can have his cake and eat it too. Second: A drowning person will grab at any straw. Third: I can't remember....ooops!

I guess Perry figured that his only chance to win a debate was to have one with a retard.

What a joke this guy is! Perry should perfect the art of debating within his own party before attempting to branch out.

I'd love to see Pelosi in a debate, it would be a gas to see someone with a single digit IQ try to debate. Wouldn't it be fun to bounce quarters off of her face into a glass?

Perhaps the 3rd thing she was going to do was get in on a little inside trading or figure out another way to make money off taxpayers. Just WHO does the FORMER Speaker of the House thinks she is? She is an arrogant........with no reason to be arrogant.

Now, now, it isn't kind to make fun of the mentaly handicapped. Seriously, Pelosi debating Perry might be pretty funny. Pelosi would be having a battle of wits with an un-armed opponent!

Why would Nancy Pelosi agree to debate the governor of Texas who presently garners about 10% of the Republican vote, which translates to about 4% of the public? Especially since he has already embarrassed himself publicly "debating" a raft of intellectual midgets?

Perry needs to take his clown act back to Texas – the rest of the country is sick of him. That he doesn't even understand what a total joke he has become only further adds to the confirmation of his tiny brain.

Why debate Pelosi? Being rude to someone like Nancy Pelosi in a debate would please the haters to no end. Won't change anything though. Until we overhaul campaign finance and stop this "corporations are people" nonsense politicians will continue to pass ridiculous legislation on behalf of special interests. That's where the government over-regulation comes from. Years of repubs and dems being in the pockets of lobbyists. Rick Perry is just like 'em.

The news coming out of Texas is that Rick Perry has been searching for someone to debate him. Herman Koch turned him down, Newt declined, Bachman has headaches, Mickey Mouse turned him down and so did Donald Duck. Last we heard, he was on Capitol Hill fencing with Ms. Pelosi. No luck there either. Me thinks he's going to debate his driver.
