Sheriff Arpaio to campaign with Perry

Hudson, New Hampshire (CNN) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona will campaign with Rick Perry in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the Texas governor's campaign told CNN on Saturday.

The man famous for his tough stance on illegal immigration has not endorsed a presidential candidate, though he has been courted by the likes of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Perry.

Arpaio is a hard-liner on illegal immigration in a state known for its tough 2010 law on the issue. Among other provisions of the law, it would require that local police, during the enforcement of other laws, check the immigration status of anyone they suspected of being undocumented.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit said the measure overstepped Arizona's authority, and the state is seeking a U.S. Supreme Court ruling to settle the issue.

Arpaio's endorsement could be helpful to Perry, who has been the subject of criticism from conservatives for some of his actions on illegal immigration.

Perry caused a firestorm of complaints when he suggested people didn't "have a heart" if they did not support educating the children of illegal immigrants.

The governor later said his remarks were "inappropriate."

Arpaio is a well-known and controversial personality who is running for his sixth term as sheriff. In an interview with CNN earlier this month he brushed off concerns about a federal investigation into abuse of power and allegations of racial profiling by his office.

Perry will spend three days in New Hampshire on his eighth visit to the state, where he ranks in the single digits in recent polls.

- CNN's Ed Lavandera and Tracy Sabo contributed to this report.

If Arpaio helps anyone's campaign, this country is in bigger trouble than any of us could ever have guessed.

Maybe Joe can help Rick with his debate responses. Question: "[Whatever]" Answer: "Damn straight I'm agin those Meskin terrorists infiltrating our borders." That ought to be the right answer at least 2/10 times, considerably improving his average.

It's a reg'lar 3-ring circus. The whole campaign has been a goat rope. It started with the McCain/Palin run at it and they never quit, clinging to Mitch McConnell's undying pledge to ensure Obama does only one term and continuing with Grover Norquist's stranglehold on idiots. And all this time it's been "Obama sux", etc, and the GOP has not introduced a single decent piece of legislation that helps us as a WHOLE Nation. Only the 1%. Then we drone on about Obama's poor leadership. Apparently leadership really is a huge deal for America. Apparently we can't think for ourselves. Arpaio goes to New Hampshire, with Perry, with a gun on his necktie. "Step right up folks and see the greatest show...!"

Why does this not surprize me? These two clowns are cut from the same piece of cloth–Intolerant, deeply opinionated, sel-centered know-it-alls who are doing more of a disservice to the principles on which this country was founded then they realize. Luckily, neither of them will be around the national news for long because neither of them has anything positive to contribute to our society.

Steps to a safer America: Step 1. Close the Borders. Step 2. Use illegal aliens to build a wall between the US and Mexico. Step 3. Hire Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio to oversee the project. Step 4. Pay illegals for their labor in the form of a one-time worker fee. Step 5. Upon finishing building the wall, deport them.

Wow!! RP really is nuts. Now he goes out and gets the most hated law enforcement officer in the country and pals around with him. I believe Arpaio's help was the downfall for a few other candidates before. I am so embarrassed that that Yea hoo is my Governor. He really sucks as a human being.

That kind of stupid statement about not having a heart sounds like something stupid that idiot Arpaio would say! Why anyone would want to have anything to do with Arpaio is beyond me, that man belongs in jail!

How many reasons does anyone need to NOT vote for Perry. Arpaio is nothing more than a thug who is responsible for several murders in his jails.

YES! YES! YES! Wonderful News! So glad to hear this! This is what Rick Perry and the United States needs. Immigration reform should be a TOP priority. Close the Borders! Make this country safe again! The USA should be safe for everyone here legally to live and work in. It's time to stop pandering to the Politically Correct and start working to make this country great again! This is one Independent voter that will be voting for Perry.

All Perry needs is Sheriff Joe to really ruin his campaign. The good Sheriff has been a joke in Arizona for years although the old folks in Maricopa county still put up with him. But the sheriff has a tough election coming up and any publicity is better than none.
