Bachmann on flip-floppers

(CNN) – Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann didn't directly comment on the controversy surrounding GOP rival Herman Cain and his presidential prospects Tuesday, but aimed an arsenal of criticism at the current frontrunners for the 2012 presidential nomination.

Trumpeting her credentials as a “consistent conservative” on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Bachmann said both former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich “have a lot to answer for the voters on being on both sides of the issues.”

Frank discusses coming out as gay, going out as congressman

Washington (CNN) - Barney Frank wasn't the first member of Congress to publicly reveal he was gay, but he was the first to do so voluntarily, he told reporters Tuesday in talking about his decision to retire.

Still, Frank said, he didn't come out about his sexuality until he was 47.

N.H. editor knocks Perry following Gingrich endorsement

(CNN) – The New Hampshire Union Leader's editorial page editor explained the paper's decision not to endorse Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, saying he is not prepared to run for president of the United States.

In an op-ed published Tuesday, Drew Cline said the Texas governor's debate performances proved he "just can't perform at the national level."

Perry flubs U.S. voting age

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Rick Perry flubbed both the country's voting age and the date of the upcoming presidential election at a speech to a group of college students in Manchester Tuesday.

The Texas governor told students in the audience he'd appreciate their vote if they were turning 21 by Nov. 12.

2012ers respond to Cain allegation

(CNN) – Some of the Republican presidential candidates responded Tuesday to the charge that Herman Cain engaged in a lengthy extramarital affair, with rival Jon Huntsman issuing the strongest reaction.

Huntsman, the former Utah governor, said Cain should consider exiting the 2012 race for the White House.

Hoyer predicts Democrats will retake the House, downplays recent retirements

Washington (CNN) - Despite a couple of high profile retirements by Democrats in recent days, the number two House Democratic Leader predicted Tuesday Democrats will retake control of the House of Representatives next fall.

"I fully expect us to take back the House," Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said at his weekly meeting with reporters on Capitol Hill.

Poll: Gingrich's lead extends to South Carolina

(CNN) – Rising Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich received the most support among likely Republican primary voters in South Carolina in a new poll, mirroring his standing in recent national polls.

The American Research Group survey released Tuesday showed the former House speaker with 33% support in the early voting state followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 22%, former pizza executive Herman Cain at 10% and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and Texas Gov. Rick Perry tied at 8%. The other candidates garnered less than 5%.

(CNN) – If I were Mitt Romney, I’d be very worried about some recent developments that could present serious problems in his race for the Republican presidential nomination.

If I were Newt Gingrich, I’d be very encouraged by those same developments.

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - A stringent opponent of illegal immigration backed Rick Perry Tuesday, as the Texas governor aimed to toughen his image on an issue that has become a rallying cry among many GOP primary voters.

Illegal immigration hard-liner Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County, Arizona, said Perry's experience working to secure the Texas border was unparalleled in the GOP field.

Cain 'reassessing' 2012 campaign

(CNN) – Embattled Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told his staff Tuesday he is "reassessing" the viability of his campaign in the wake of a new allegations he engaged in a lengthy extramarital affair, CNN has learned.

One top campaign source told CNN he expects a decision "within a few days," based on whether Cain's fund-raising dries up.
