Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Rick Perry flubbed both the country's voting age and the date of the upcoming presidential election at a speech to a group of college students in Manchester Tuesday.
The Texas governor told students in the audience he'd appreciate their vote if they were turning 21 by Nov. 12.
But the United States' voting age is 18, and voters will weigh in on the presidential election on Nov. 6.
A few members of the audience giggled but Perry did not appear to notice his error.
doh! What a nut-job. He's a cross between Sarah Palin & Michelle Bachmann w/ male genitals. Good bye, Ricky. Next...
Yeah, and next week he will say that Texas is the biggest state in the Union and everyone will soil their drawers over that too. Big deal.
obama said he campaigned in 57 states. great, that is 7 more states that can pay income taxes. cnn gives this dummy a free pass ......
They sure educate them well in Texas
He's like George W. Bush and Sarah Palin rolled into one! Oh, if only ignorance was painful.......
Ah yes the mouthbreathers with their one and only tired line: 57 states....they never fail to put the d-i-c in "predictable". Sure sign that they are beaten when anyone can call their move everytime one of their clowns comes up with yet another flub. Get better GOP, not bitter.
For truth, I couldn't tell you, with absolutely certainty, the election date. And I just read this article.
But, the voting age? Yeah, how can you mess that one up?
This clown wants to be the president of the USA. What a joke. is he on some kind of medication/drugs and can't seem to remember facts and figures? How did he even pass his undergraduate exams. Did some one else take the tests for him?
Not even Barnum and Bailey had a clown car as large as the one carrying the current republican field
Interesting, Perry turned 21 in the same year (1971) the 26th Amendment was passed – lowering the voting age to 18.
Since Perry became Governor our education system has gone down the toilet. Check out our new license plates – they read "We're Still Smarter Than Mississippi!".
Republicans need to stop being proud of candidates that "are just like you and me...". Personally, I don't feel I'm smart enough to run the most powerful nation in the world and certainly don't want somebody with even less capability serving as POTUS. I'll vote for President Obama in 2012.
Those are pretty minor flubs. It's not like he said there were 57 states, or said in his inauguration address that he was the 44th man to take the oath of office. The latter flub is particularly disturbing as it certainly was fact checked (Cleveland was both our 22 and 24th president, so Obama was the 43rd "man," even if you include Buchanan).
It's incredible, really, how flawless we are, knowing every minute detail of every mundane topic.
One old adage holds true. " Buyer beware".
I really haven't seen any Republicans I'd vote for, at any level of government. Not saying I'm pro-dem, but these Republicans spouting off about deregulating corporations and banks so they can run ramshod over US citizens and the environment while yapping about God left and right is just sickening. I'd be embarrassed to call myself a Republican, quite honestly. They were all in an uproar about Obama not mentioning God in his Thanksgiving youtube address. Really? This is the best they can do? Thanksgiving isn't a Christian holiday the last I checked.
The Lord told Perry to run for the Presidency. He told Bachman and Cain to run also. Hmmm, who is this God fellow. He's got horrible judgement in presidential candidates. Thanks heaven God doesn't get to vote!
In his defense, he had absolutely no reason to think anyone was actually listening to him anymore.
Shocked, I am just shocked....and Cain hasn't had any affairs/harassment.....and Newt doesn't know how much money he made from Fannie M./Freddie M.. Well, I am just beginning to wonder about these guys.....hmmm.
im so ashamed to be from Texas! And no I didnt vote for him!!!! Hopefully my fellow texans will remember this next time around when it times for voting for a new governor!
Scary that this is the Best of Class for the GOP.
Come on, Perry and supporters! Hey, he's a nice Christian man, a southern gentelman – maybe he should take up the ministry; I bet he could be a positive influence in many lives. But President of the United States? I think not.
Everybody makes mistakes on occasion, but to ask the young ones to vote for him once they are 21? It's surreal that Perry actually doesn't know the voting age is 18 in our country and has been since Nixon was President.
Not knowing such a vital thing is cause enough to say, "He's out. Next!"
Perry should know this basic fact of US life. How did he possibly miss it all these years? What the heck? Is it possible for a man his age to never have entered a conversation – not once – with an 18, 19, or 20 year old voter who just voted? The answer appears to be YES! Holy smolly! What has he been doing otherwise to not know such "common knowledge"?
"Brother Perry" will work for Rick, "President Perry" obviously will not.
We saw similar lack of knowledge from Sara Palin, remember? She's kind and dedicated to her family as is Rick Perry. But so what? So am I!
Look, we aren't about to elect someone with "lack of basic knowledge"; not now, no way we do that.
Perry and Palin got elected governor somehow (makes you wonder how) – but they'll never make President, because you've got to KNOW things we ALL know and you can't NOT know and just get mad.
He should hang it up because it's all over. He's too uninformed to be President. Pope? Sure. Governor of Texas? Why not.
Republicans are either a) dumb, b) mean, or c) bewildered by what happened to their party since Reagan and Bush Sr. left office. Hopefully the people in group c will come back and clean house. Perry is in group a. Bachmann is in group a and b. Cain is in group b. Gingrich is in group b. Romney is in group c, but may belong in group b.
He looks toasted.
Perry makes George W. Bush look like Einstein. Please donate all of your campaign cash to charity.
Perry made a mistake?! No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this is the man who wanted to secede and then run the country he seceded from, too, right?! I'm waiting for the replies from the "informed" Right on this – it'll be priceless.
