What does ‘suspending’ mean?

(CNN) –- With news Saturday that Herman Cain is suspending his bid for the 2012 GOP nomination, many are wondering what the move means for his future.

Federal law doesn’t have a specific definition for “suspending” a political campaign, meaning Cain is still legally considered a candidate.

Because he did not officially drop out of the race, Cain will still be allowed to raise and spend campaign funds as if he were still seeking the nomination.

If he had told supporters Saturday he was ending his bid for the White House, Cain would have been permitted only to raise funds to retire debts accrued on the campaign trail.

Cain will still be required to file financial disclosure reports with the Federal Election Commission at the end of each fund-raising quarter.

–CNN Political Research Director Robert Yoon contributed to this report.

Cain's supposed 9.99 inch we-we didn't measure up to its porported length. Instead it was only 3.33 inches, so he was embellishing the numbers way too much. So that is the way it is...now he's back to makin pizza!!!

Didn't McCain "suspend" his campaign to save the economy? That really worked out well for him...

Mr. Cain, like many other politicians, is guilty of hubris. His self-inflated image allowed him to think that he could get away with his excesses. Fortunately, the open system we have worked to bring his excesses forward before it was too late for the nation.

I am glad to be rid of this philandering liar who wanted to spend billions building a fence to electrocute poor people crossing the border; had too much twirling in his mind to know the latest news events (maybe too many ladies phone numbers). He made his egotistical megalomania obvious by his own speaking. The only megalomaniac left in the Republican nominees is the other philanderer and historian(?) – you know who I mean.

America heard your dream and signed on to it. America realizes that there are very few perfect relationships. It is up to Herman Cain and his wife to manage their relationship. Cain's message of reform and working such plans as the 999 are important to the average American. If he believes he can help America and his wife and family support and believe in him, that is enough to continue. Stand your ground Herman Cain and carry the dream further.

Cain's speech made no sense today. If Cain had not done anything wrong; why would he "suspend" his campaign? Finally the womanizer got crushed by his preys. I feel rejoiced this ignorant distraction is out. Cain has embarrassed his family, the GOP and it's about time to forget this clown. Ron Paul is the only outstanding GOP candidate.

It seems that he should not be allowed to raise money because he wouldn't be really able to win. It is frustrating that he can raise money for other things that aren't a part of the presidential campaign.

Suspending means a "temporary thing". If something "fell" then it would hit ground. If it was "suspended" it would dangle. Herman Cain hasn't gone away. He craves media attention. If not front and centre he will be side and visible for the duration of this campaign and likely will be present frequently on the FOX entertainment network.
