Mamma Mia! It’s Newt on the phone

Washington (CNN) – Longtime ABBA fan and Republican Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has a favorite among this year's Kennedy Center lifetime achievement honorees.

Speaking on the red carpet on his way into the 34th Annual Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night, Gingrich said, "Since my ring tones are from “Mamma Mia,” I have a certain bias towards Meryl Streep."

This was news to Streep, one of the evening's five honorees, who walked the red carpet a while later. Streep starred in the movie “Mamma Mia,” whose storyline was based on ABBA’s hit music.

"That explains a lot!" she said, laughing. "I'm very amused to hear that!"

Streep said, "I must tell ABBA. They'll be very interested in that information."

Asked if he expects to gain the votes of former Godfather's Pizza Chairman Herman Cain, who suspended his Republican presidential bid Saturday, Gingrich laughed.

"Not tonight! We'll talk about that tomorrow," he said. "Tonight's just for arts and honoring people."

Gingrich said he is not concerned about taking a brief campaign breather.

"I think we can afford to take three or four hours off to honor the arts," he quipped. "It's a big risk, but I'm willing to take it."

This wife better hope she doesn't become critically ill, or it may be off to someone new for Newt.

Newt's wife is pretty... for now. I certainly hope she doesn't acquire cancer. If so, he'll drop her like a hot rock. Is this statement cruel? Certainly. Still... this is the man some of you support. This is his character. Where did YOUR sense of humanity go?

America needs Romney. Not Newt not Obama we need Romney a moderate who will put the countries needs first. Obama isn't capable of that and Newt isn't either.

a nice story showing the sarcastic, almost funny, almost human side of Newt. having his wife at his side also makes him look more human by comparison.

Is he honoring the "little rascals" or is he hiring them for his security detail? Cheaply of course?

GOP wingnuts want Romney so Newt better watch his back. He'll be swiftboated by dirty tricks before he gets too close like the GOP swiftboated Herb Cain.

If politicians are like mogwais and mogwais are potential gremlins then newt face reminds us of Gizmo the good mogwai. Look carefully at his face- he has the 'good natured' uncle buck look with a twist of intelligence and a pinch of cunning. With a face like his; he must be a winner!
