Bookstore episode with child was 'reprehensible,' says Bachmann

(CNN) - GOP hopeful Michele Bachmann said Wednesday that a recent episode at a book signing, in which a young boy told her his gay mother "didn't need fixing," was "reprehensible."

"He obviously didn't want to say what he was put up to say, and I just think it's reprehensible when someone uses a little child to advance a political agenda," Bachmann said Wednesday on CNN's "John King, USA."

"That's what was going on in a book signing. I'd never do that to one of my children, and it's really unfortunate that this poor, little boy was used in that way."

The incident, which was recorded and has since received millions of views on YouTube, took place at a bookstore in South Carolina. The Minnesota congresswoman said it was clear the boy's mother goaded him into speaking to her.

In the interview Wednesday, Bachmann stood firm in her opposition to same sex marriage.

"I'm very unashamed, I believe that we should all be allowed to have our opinions respected, and I stand for marriage and marriage between a man and a woman," Bachmann said.

As for the current GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich, Bachmann said the former House speaker had distracted voters from his record using finely-tuned language.

"He's very good at co-opting the conservative language, and he's using that conservative language, but his record completely belies his language," Bachmann said. "No one has been more the epitome of a Washington, D.C., insider than Newt Gingrich. He's taken over $100 million for influence peddling in Washington, D.C. His office is located on the Rodeo Drive of Washington which is K Street, and he's taken over $1.6 million to influence senior Republicans to keep the big mess at Freddie Mac going."

Bachmann continued, listing a host of issues she disagreed with Gingrich on.

"He's wrong on immigration, he's wrong on global warming, he was wrong on the $700 billion bailout, he was wrong on Libya. On issue after issue, his positions have hardly been conservative. He's had more in common with Barack Obama than he has with our conservatives. That's not what we can have for our nominee."

I do not support or agree with 95% of Bachmann's policies or statements. But she has a point.

You should never force a kid to say something you are to scared to say. Either you build up the courage to say it yourself or you walk away.

Looks like Bachmann is hunting buisness for her husbands ungay clinic. It is hard to believe that this woman is actually a congresswoman. Granted the GOP will take any representative they can get but this one is from another planet.

Bachmann is the only "Thing" that is reprehensible. This lady is a crazy fruit cake. She was hen she attacked the old couple at the Minnesota State Fair several years back and cussed them out for some reason! We watched her go ballistic!

As much as I disagree with Bachmann on the issue of gay and lesbian rights, I agree that it was a very low blow to use your son as a tool to push an agenda. I watched the video on youtube and it definitely appeared as if the boy was coached into saying that. If it's true, then it was a shameful act. If you have something you want to say to Bachmann, then go up to her and say it yourself. Don't bring your kids into it.

Does that mean she will tell her rethuglican cohorts to quit bringing their children with when they picket abortion clinics. Didn't think so. Its only reprehencible when its not her opinion.

The problem is that Bachmann has a problem with those that are not her or like her. I don't see how that situation in the bookstore is "reprehensible." Are the homosexuals out there so vile that they can't be dealt with or even talked to.

It is shameful for gay activists to exploit and manipulate a 8-year-old to advance their radical homosexual agenda. "Gay marriage" is an oxymoron, since marriage means "a permanent union between one woman and man."
For 5000 years, "marriage" has meant "a contract between one man and one woman", not some other random combination of humans because it feels good. That definition of marriage is the bedrock of human society. MB's response meant that society should not endorse gay marriage by giving it the high status of "marriage". Ignore the perverted and false "interpretations" of her comments by gay media bloggers. She remains the most principled Constitutional Conservative on the American political stage.
This was a particularly moronic screed on MB's commonsense response and instruction to clueless gay activist students. The radical left, gay media no longer even pretends to report political news but instead feeds us radical left gay propaganda.
The argument for "gay marriage" is equally valid (and equally invalid) for 1 man-2 women and for 2 women-1 man; etc. The logical extension of allowing "gay marriage" is legalizing polygamy.

Oh please, she uses her children and her foster children every chance she gets.

The little boy was only speaking truth to power.
