Montemayor? Perry slips when criticizing judge

(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry railed Friday against Pres. Barack Obama Friday for appointing "activist judges" to the Supreme Court, but stumbled when he couldn't remember Justice Sonya Sotomayor's name. At another point he tripped up over the number of justices on the nation's highest court.

Perry, speaking to the Des Moines Register, was defending a controversial campaign ad when he slipped up.

"When you see his appointment of two, from my perspective, inarguably activist judges, whether it was…," Perry said, trailing off as he struggled to come up with Sotomayor's name.

At one point, Perry threw out, "Montemayor."

After about 5 seconds, an editorial board member from the Des Moines Register offered Sotomayor's name, and Perry quickly regained his train of thought.

"Sotomayor, and Kagan, are both activists judges, and I would suggest to you that is an example of my concern about, I believe the Supreme Court should not be making legislative decisions and telling Americans how to live."

At another point in the meeting with the newspaper's editorial board, Perry mistakenly suggested there were eight justices on the bench, rather than nine.

"For Washington to tell a local school district that you cannot have prayer and a time of prayer in school is, I think, offensive to most Americans," Perry said. "I trust the people of the states to make those decisions. I trust those independent school districts to make those decisions better than eight unelected, and frankly unaccountable judges," Perry said.

Funny how judges are labeled "activist" unless they support your side of an issue. More from this dumb lot of GOP candidates. How embarrassing for our country. Obama in 2012; our only viable choice.

I just had an epiphany! I'm on record as being an atheist, but let's say for the sake of argument that I am wrong. God has told Perry, Bachman, et al, to run for president. The only logical conclusion is that God wants Obama to win!

This explains why Texas rewrote the history books used in their schools. That way Rick won't be the dumbest person in the state.

Hey woman in California...We're a lot a like. We're women, we're in California. Except I have a brain. My 23-year-old has health insurance because of the pres, hatred isn't legal for our military any more, the rest of the world respects or fears us as appropriate, Osama's gone, Egypt and Libya are liberated with our subtle help, we're out of Iraq where we never should have been, cancer patients and others with pre-exisiting conditions can get insurance.... Quit reading the talking points.

I am worried about early Alzheimer's. And I am not joking. I'm starting to think that these "gaffes" are something more serious, and can't be considered fatigue.

The best feeling in the world after being in Texass for 30 plus years was indeed the view of Texass in the side mirror of a 26 foot U-Haul!

This moron has been an embarrassment to any sane Texan.

And once he said liberals should get out of the state, I did!

After all, with this ignorant twit at the helm, could liberal concentration camps be far behind?

Feeling safer and welcomed in Hotlanta!!!

Kinda makes you wonder why the Texas A & M alumni association has not issued a PSA that all grads are NOT this stupid!

Or at the very least, issue a statement that 75% of grads can count to 9!

I'm beginning to suspect that Perry is in the early stages of alzhiemers (Spelling – maybe I am too). Seriously, the many pauses he makes to search his mind for the correct word, etc. might be an early sign.

Sheesh, this guy went to college to become an over-educated dog catcher! At this point, I think the only defense Perry can offer is to say he was drunk during the interview.
