(CNN) - Senate Republicans on Monday blocked President Obama's choice to be ambassador to El Salvador after raising questions about whether her former boyfriend was a spy for Cuba. Republicans also were concerned that Mari Carmen Aponte wrote a commentary about gay pride that offended some citizens in the conservative Catholic country.
Aponte is serving in the post temporarily as a recess appointment that expires at the end of the year. Efforts by the White House and congressional Democrats to defend and promote Aponte to a permanent position fell short when the Senate voted along party lines against her.

Republicans in the Senate block everything. They are political terrorists and it's time for the American people to take action. The Senate is a useless organization and the filibuster rule is killing progress in America. They are nothing but lap-dogs for a few wealthy political activists with deep pockets.
I think that presdient obama make
Lots problems trouble
Vote them out.
Really??? There Obama goes again!!!
A "former boyfriend" hardly sounds like a security threat. Sounds like the anti-gay agenda is being imposed on foreign policy.
Filibuster and obstruct, even if it means collapsing the national and world economies, or risking national security. I'm sick and tired of the anti-American GOP domestic terrorists, and I hope their actions lead to civil war, so they and all their supporters can be eradicated once and for all.
Same ole politics the do nothing republicans. Please 2012 election hurry up so we can vote them out of the office.
The republican really hate president Obama it a damm shame to see this going on in our country.
Republican say no to the president and american will say no to the republican 2012 election.
They're objections are noted; as meaningless, petty, and politically motivated. Come on, man. The former boyfriend was a "former boyfriend" in 1998. Notice that they are not objecting to the proposed candidate, they are objecting to the candidate's boyfriend because of curculating rumors that attempts were being made to recruit him as a spy. No evidence, just rumors.
