Johnson to run as Libertarian Party candidate

(CNN) - Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson told supporters he will seek the Libertarian Party presidential nomination, a campaign source confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.

Johnson has been running for president on the Republican ticket since April but has struggled to break above the low single digits in poll numbers.

Joe Hunter, Johnson’s communication director, confirmed that Johnson is planning a major campaign announcement in Santa Fe, New Mexico on December 28th. A conference call will take place Tuesday night with campaign staff regarding the plans.

Word of Johnson’s decision was first reported by POLITICO.

Appears quite a number are excited about this, as the story has been up for hours and I'm the first.

Santorum and Bachmann are in single digits too. Perry is not much better but they won't leave, there is money to be made.
