Gingrich wouldn't vote for Ron Paul

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich said Tuesday he wouldn't vote for Ron Paul if the Texas congressman won the 2012 GOP nomination.

Speaking to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Gingrich slammed Paul as out of line with mainstream Republican viewpoints, including his stance on Israel, Iran, and September 11.

"I think Ron Paul's views are totally outside the mainstream of virtually every decent American," Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Gingrich continued: "He's got to come up with some very straight answers to get somebody to take him seriously. Would I be willing to listen to him? Sure. I think the choice of Ron Paul or Barack Obama would be a very bad choice for America."

When asked if he would be able to vote for Paul if his rival won the 2012 GOP nomination, Gingrich said unequivocally "No."

"I think it's very difficult to see how you would engage in dealing with Ron Paul as a nominee," Gingrich said. "Given the newsletters, which he has not yet disowned. He would have to go a long way to explain himself and I think it would be very difficult to see today, Ron Paul as the Republican nominee."

Paul's role in writing newsletters with racist remarks came under increased scrutiny last week as polls showed the Texas rising in popularity among Iowa voters. The most recent, from the American Research Group, shows Paul, Gingrich and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a dead heat for first place. Paul has indicated he did not write all of the content in his newsletters and had not read some of it before publication.

In responding to negative ads Paul's campaign has released slamming Gingrich's record as a conservative, the former House speaker said the spots were inaccurate.

"You look at Ron Paul's record of systemic avoidance of reality, his ads are about as accurate as his newsletter," Gingrich said.

Gingrich named Paul's stance on Iran as representative of Paul's extremist viewpoints.

"He's not going to get the nomination. It won't happen," Gingrich said. "The people in the United States are not going to accept somebody who thinks it's irrelevant if Iran gets a nuclear weapon."

Paul's campaign responded to Gingrich Tuesday, calling his remarks "childish."

"Frustration from his floundering campaign has Newt Gingrich showing who he really is: a divisive, big-government liberal," Paul Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton said. "Newt has a long record of standing against conservatives dating back to his support for liberal Nelson Rockefeller over Barry Goldwater, so this sort of childish outburst is nothing new."

...and yet this “non-serious” guy named Ron Paul; who is “totally outside the mainstream of virtually every decent American,” is still regularly and decisively beating Gingrich in the Polls.

What does that say about how "decent Americans" regard Gingrich?

After watching the Wolf Blitzer interview with Newt Gingrich, I donated $100 to the Ron Paul campaign.

If Dr. Paul doesn't get the nomination, I'll write him in. I will no longer be stampeded with the 'wasted vote' line. Republican? Democrats? No- REPUBLICRATS, and I am done with them.

I would never vote for Paul either – because he wants the government to force women to continue unwanted pregnancies against their will, but I applaud his foreign policy views.

This from the man whose campaign folks equated his not getting on the Virginia ballot with the events of December 7, 1941. And I thought Trump was a legend in his own mind. I have to worry about the folks who still may vote for this man. I'll paraphrase the line from Top Gun: "Newt's ego is writing checks his body can't cash".

Good for Newt! He doesn't pander. Obama's handlers have had to muzzle him so he wont slip in the polls again, but Newt is at the stage of life where it's clear he is forthright and courageous.

At our core, true republicans do not believe in sensless, pre-meditated wars. We believe in the rights of individuals to govern themselves and that includes foreign nations. We lost our way with the Neo-Con movement but we can bring ourselves back to reality and bring honor back to the republican party.

Gingrich is an evil disgusting person. He wouldn't know what any decent American would say or do because no decent American would ever give him the time of day. He knows he is never gonna be pres and knows he doesnt deserve the job. Ron Paul is what we need, Ron Paul is MY president. Even if he somehow doesnt win the nomination (unlikely cuz he is doing so well) I'm writing him in on the ballot anyway. I refuse to give MY vote to the lesser evil again...its the only reason Obama got in office in the first place...he wasnt McCain. Obama is unqualified for the job, he's had 4 years to prove otherwise and failed. Please bring on Dr. Paul to save out country from itself!

I could be wrong, but wasn't Newt Gingrich Speaker of the House during the impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton for Bill's lying about having an extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky? Someone said that Newt was cheating on his 2nd wife around this same time? Now that could be an example of "Serial Hypocrisy"

If Newt considers himself to be a "Decent American" then we should all strive for his definition of indecency.

What's laughable about Gingrich's remarks here is, one, he has no standing whatsoever to comment on decency, and two, like all the other Right-Winger candidates, he has no standing to comment on anyone's "systemic avoidance of reality", as that is precisely what they all engage in all day every day.

"You look at Ron Paul's record of systemic avoidance of reality, his ads are about as accurate as his newsletter," Gingrich said.

The real fight in this race isn't to take down Mitt Romney, because his support is basically flat-lined. The real fight is this race is for the anti-Romney voters, which is number that is 3 times that of Romney supporters.

Newt is a 3 time cheat, a war mongering, flip flopping neo-con a-whole who changes his stance on every policy just to tell you what you want to hear, unprincipled liar. And every one knows it. That is why the ONE TRUE PEACE CANDIDATE, RON PAUL is going to win the presidency in 2012, and all of the garbage mud slinging going his way over some news letters he never wrote isn't going to work. Ron Paul is our last hope. Vote for the end to all U.S. preemptive, illegal war. Vote Ron Paul.

Hey Newt. Guess what. If YOU get the nomination, I won't vote for you either. I'll STILL write in Ron Paul if he isn't already running on another ticket. I'd rather be stuck with O b a m a for another 4 years, as awful as he is, than put up with your mainstream politics-as-usual nonsense. People sure do have short memories. WHY is it even the media fails to remind anybody that Newt was the ONLY Speaker of the House EVER s l a p p e d with e t h i c s violation sanctions in the late 90s, AND fined $300K on top of that?
