Algona, Iowa (CNN) - Six days after challenging Mitt Romney to "test this kitchen," Newt Gingrich goaded his GOP opponent to "come to the chocolate factory"–a loaded dare referencing Romney's quip that a recent Gingrich campaign stumble was less like Pearl Harbor and more like "Lucille Ball at the chocolate factory."
During a campaign stop at The Chocolate Season in Algona Wednesday, the former House speaker told supporters Romney was trying have his cake and eat it too.

Algona, Iowa (CNN) - Newt Gingrich cited fraud Wednesday as the reason he didn't get on the Virginia primary ballot.
Last week his campaign acknowledged they used paid volunteers to scramble to get the required 10,000 signatures but fell short after the former House speaker and Virginia resident boasted his campaign was submitting as many as 12,000-14,000 signatures.

Spencer, Iowa (CNN) - A conservative group turned pro-Gingrich super PAC that distributed a mailer calling Mitt Romney "the second most dangerous man in America" after President Obama has touched off a political firestorm just days before the Iowa caucuses.
The chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, Matt Strawn resigned as co-chair from the organization, Strong America Now, just hours after details about the controversial mailer emerged Wednesday morning.

A new survey of people likely to attend Iowa's Republican caucuses indicates that the former House speaker's support in the Hawkeye State is plunging. And according to a CNN/Time/ORC International Poll, one-time long shot candidate Rick Santorum has more than tripled his support since the beginning of the month.

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – Republican leaders of the largest counties in Iowa tell CNN they expect a stream of party switchers and high, in some cases record, turnout in this year's GOP caucuses.
"We're expecting at least a 30 percent increase (over 2008)," said Linn County Republican Chairman Steve Armstrong. "Attendance has been up at every event we've held this year. Republicans are more engaged." Linn County, which sits in the eastern part of Iowa and includes Cedar Rapids, had the second largest number of caucus goers in 2008.
