(CNN) - A day after announcing his position on abortion had undergone a "transformation," Texas Gov. Rick Perry clarified that he would make an exception if a mother's life was in danger.
On Tuesday, the Republican presidential candidate told a crowd in Iowa that he had toughened his stance on abortion after viewing a documentary produced by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Perry said he had changed his position to oppose abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.
When he was pressed about the change Wednesday, Perry said his he would allow for abortion when a woman's life was at risk. He said such cases were the only ones in which he thought abortions were acceptable.
Perry recently signed the Personhood USA pledge to advance legislation protecting human beings "as persons at every stage of development."
The pledge doesn't say precisely whether abortions should be permitted if a woman's life is in danger, stating only: "I recognize that in cases where a mother's life is at risk, every effort should be made to save the baby's life as well."
Perry said again Wednesday that his transformation on abortion came after watching the Huckabee film, "A Gift of Life," and after a conversation with Rebecca Kiessling, who is known among abortion opponents for speaking about her life story, which begins with her conception as a result of rape.
"I really thought about this through the Christmas holidays," Perry said. "That's the conclusion I came to after (Kiessling) looked me in the eyes and said, 'Why would my life not be worth saving?' And I didn't have an answer."

Modify away, Ricky. You're campaign is dead in the water. Much like most of your brain.
Also if the mother was raped by Satan.
Please go away; far, far away. Thank God you don't have a chance!
this is what the first stages of alzheimers looks like
I love the priorities these candidates are setting.............NOTHING in the way of JOBS!!! None of it is going anywhere because NONE of them are winning in 2012!!
Obama 2012
If it will get him more votes, he will change his mind again tomorrow.
The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Pledge
Revitalizing oil
Clean,Nourish ,Protect

Perry / Enron 2002
He will do or say anything to get a vote.
"However, Candidate Perry also reaffirmed the pledge he made yesterday and insisted he personally would never agree to have an abortion, even if his life was in danger,"
Making a decision based on a right wing movie is not Presidential, can you imagine if Perry watched a movie and it moved him to start a war, what a goof !
Go home Rick!
I'll bet $10,000 my friend, that is Rick just quit and went home, they would throw a parade for him in Texas.
Can't decide which is a carbon copy of the other-Santorum or Perry. One is as bad as the other.
What a simpleton this guy is. Now he reveals that he bases the foundation for his positions based upon TV and the movies. What a dolt. W is a rocket scientist compared to this moron.
Perry is just a typical Republican – dumb as a post and willing to do and say anything to get a vote. Thankfully, there are enough people in this country who realize this and will make sure this clown doesn't get within a mile of the White House.
"And if that doesn't stick to the wall, I'll say something else until it does!"........Rick Perry!~
