Perry bets Iowa fortunes on robust ground game

Boone, Iowa (CNN) - Even as they grapple with mediocre poll numbers, a gaffe-prone candidate and internal staff feuding, Rick Perry's advisers are confident that a top-three caucus finish is within reach on Tuesday.

Santorum's closing argument on Iowa TV

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - With three days to go until the Iowa caucuses, Rick Santorum's campaign is going up with a new TV commercial which says the former senator from Pennsylvania is the most qualified Republican presidential candidate to take on President Barack Obama.

The Santorum campaign says the ad starts running statewide in Iowa on Saturday. A top Santorum aide tells CNN the 30-second spot, which will be accompanied by radio commercials and direct mail, is the campaign's closing ad in the Hawkeye State and will run through Tuesday's caucuses, which kick off the primary and caucus calendar.

In Iowa, true believers ignore politics' fickle winds

Urbandale, Iowa (CNN) - In an empty parking lot off New York Avenue, the rumpling sound of a plastic Herman Cain 2012 banner can be heard flapping in the wind. The sign on the window at Cain's headquarters here still reads, "Come in, we're open." Inside, a table full of bumper stickers, yard signs and buttons gathers dust.

It's a haunting scene for the presidential candidates pinning their hopes on a respectable finish in the January 3 Iowa caucuses, a reminder that a candidate who has the nation talking can suddenly put a period on the end of the sentence.
