(CNN) - Coming off a second-to-last place showing in a key poll two days before the Iowa caucuses, Texas Gov. Rick Perry insisted Sunday that he has "a good bit to show" for his heavy campaigning in the state.
"We got in the race late," he told "Fox News Sunday," referring to his entry into the presidential field in August. "Some of these folks have been running for years" across multiple contests, he argued.

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Rick Santorum started the new year riding the wave of a strong finish in the last major poll before Tuesday's Iowa caucuses and looked to rally his supporters in a series of events on Sunday.
There were few surprises in Saturday night's Des Moines Register poll - front-runners Mitt Romney and Ron Paul finished 1-2 as they had in other polls during the week. But the Register poll showed Santorum, who just weeks ago had registered only in single digits, pulling ahead of rivals Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry.

The travel plans are further evidence the congresswoman from neighboring Minnesota is planning to forge on with her campaign, whatever the outcome in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses and despite her low poll figures in national and state wide surveys.

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - After a year when the Republican presidential race became defined by debates and cable news chatter instead of retail politics and town hall meetings, Iowa seems primed, in the end, to reward the candidates who did things the old-fashioned way.
Three Republican candidates - Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum - are on the cusp of grabbing a coveted top-three finish in Iowa, the leadoff caucus state, which rarely picks presidents but usually find a way to whittle down the field of candidates.
FULL STORY(CNN) – Ahead of Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, Mitt Romney won the backing of an additional newspaper in the state on Sunday.
The Quad City Times tossed its endorsement to the former Massachusetts governor, praising him as the "articulate, polished chief executive with a range of business and governing experience that far exceeds his rivals."

(CNN) - Just two days before the Iowa caucuses, Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa, who holds a highly sought-after endorsement in the state, said he's waiting to show his support until he finds the right candidate to lead the country out of debt.
"I want to know they believe it and can lead America to where we need to go to get us back from the abyss of a fiscal calamity," King said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "I haven't seen that with the clarity that I want to see, and if me holding back on this helps get that case before the American people, I may well have to do that."
(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, who's surged to the top tier in Iowa in recent weeks, said he doesn't expect to finish lower than second place in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses.
"I may come in first. I may come in second. I doubt I'll come in third or fourth," Paul said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "I would say the people are with me on this, and the momentum is going to continue regardless of what happens and what place I am Tuesday night."
