Huntsman: Pro-Paul Manchurian Candidate ad 'stupid'

Concord, New Hampshire (CNN) - No translator was needed to interpret Jon Huntsman's response to a pro-Ron Paul web ad that asks whether the former Utah Governor is a "Manchurian Candidate?"

"It's just stupid," Huntsman told a crowd of college students in Concord, New Hampshire Friday morning.

The web ad from the group, New Hampshire Liberty 4 Ron Paul, takes aim at Huntsman's ambassadorship in China, his ability to speak Mandarin, and even his adopted daughter, Gracie Mei, who is Chinese. The spot closes with an image of Huntsman dressed as China's communist leader Mao Zedong.

After his speech, Huntsman told reporters Paul should disavow the ad.

"If the group is in any way affiliated with his organization of course he should," Huntsman said.

"It's just political campaign nonsense. It happens from time to time," he added.

In his remarks, Huntsman described how Gracie Mei was found abandoned in a vegetable market in China and taken to an orphanage shortly after she was born 12 years ago.

Gracie Mei, who is now 12, is a fixture on the Huntsman campaign. The GOP contender often endearingly refers to her as his top foreign policy adviser.

"And now she's in my family," Huntsman said.

Polls show Huntsman, Paul, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich are all in a battle for second place in the upcoming New Hampshire primary.

II searched out the 'ad' and it's just a poorly made youtube video, probably not part of any official campaign. With that in mind, every candidate has stupid supporters – Huntsman included – and why a news agency wants to make it relevant is beyond me.

Mr. Huntsman is too intelligent to be running alongside these GOP clowns in 2012. The only reason I can see him hanging in there is to get good experience for his race in 2016. And if he does run in 2016 (and Hillary doesn't), stays sane, and above the fray he'll get my vote.

Last poll out of new hampshire had Ron at 24% a solid second , then Rick Sat. in third at 11% everyone else is in single digits. So JIm why are you being misleading by acting like we have a close race for second .

The ad was stupid but will probably resonate with some in the GOP base who consider anyone who knows anything about a foreign country not a Real Amuricon. Those folks are flag waving Morans.

Why not patrol YouTube? If one person can upload a ad without any affiliation to a candidate or candidates supporters, how is it the candidates responsibility to disavow it? This is ridiculous. Just a smear campaign against Paul.

Stupidity is one of the strongest characteristics of the Republican party. Huntsman is the only one who has class, common sense, intelligence and doesn't lie all the time. I would never vote for a Republican candidate since it would be a disaster economically, socially, and we would find a place to go to war again, since they have a fascination with wars. No wonder many don't believe in evolution, they can't keep up with it.

Another wonderful result of the Citizen's United decision by the Supreme Court. At least when the party or the candidate did the ads, they had to be responsible. Now, they can run any kind of garbage and blatantly false or fear mongering ads they want without dirtying their hands "officially". That and they can hide the financiers behind them, which can include foreign influences.

I thought Ron Paul had some integrity , he's like his son only senile .

Huntsman was ambassador to China , he speaks Mandarin. Thats nothing to be ashamed of . If he spoke Spanish and was ambassador to Mexico , would Paul compare him to Poncho Villa ?

Why do Paul and Romney look and act the Mr Rogers neighborhood ?

I saw the Ron Paul ad and it was absurd. I am a staunch Democrat but the only candidate I have any respect for is Huntsman. He was a Governor, an Ambassador to China who put serving his country above politics, speaks fluent Chinese, is actually intelligent, and genuine. I do not agree with his policies or beliefs but at least he is honest and cares about our nation. The other "candidates" are lunatics, dishonest, change positions daily, want to destroy the People to turn America into a corporate dictatorship, and are so full of hate for anyone not like them they cannot be President because they could never represent all Americans. They would persecute anyone who is not white, not "Christian" (whatever that means since not one has any real Christian values I recognize), not rich, and who would not dare to challenge their destruction of our education system, SS, Medicare, veteran benefits, help for the poor (by the way – 47% of people on food stamps are white, 22% are black, and 14% are hispanic – so their racist rants about who the poor are are lies), and raging desire to start another unpaid for war to benefit their defense contractor buddies. Republicans have betrayed America starting back with Bush and Cheney and continue to betray the People with obstructionism, not one job created, not one ounce of concern for the middle class, and a desire for America to fail to meet their insane need for power. Republicans are dangerous and destructive for the future of our nation and need to be removed from every local, state, and national office so we can return to our democracy, return to our real values as nation who helps each other all rise and succeed, and one where People matter more than money and corporations.

Wasn't Huntsman a diplomat? Am so surprised there is no any diplomat on earth can use such a word: "stupid" public ally/openly or was he confusing it with the word "silly"???

I don't know why the media is promoting this story. They are obviously not doing their job by checking out the source. The video was not done by the official campaign or any super pac. Just some random user on youtube (check the join date) posted it up. HUNTSMAN IS DESPERATE (POLLING BEHIND 4 OTHER CANDIDATES IN NH)

"It's just stupid," – Yep, pretty much applies to just about everything Republican these days.

  18. it isn't a 'web ad'

It isn't a 'Web Ad', some random person on the internet is pretending to be a Ron Paul supporter to make Ron Paul and his supporters look bad. CNN, who thought nothing of it when the Pac Huntsman's Dad funds puts out TV ads implying Ron Paul is racist and crazy, turns this random internet troll into a headline.

    Manipulation is unethical.

I like this sensible, sophisiticated, superbly qualified man. To think America could have a president with vast experience and leadership like this, compared to the apprentice in chief who currently hides in the WH refusing for 6 months to speak to GOP leaders or anyone opposing his views!

Huntsman is the candidate most likely to get the moderate vote and least likely to win the Republican nonination. He's simply not radical enough and isn't getting marching orders from the Tea Party nor from the Koch brothers crowd of fat cats.

Sad attempt at a hate filled ad to discredit Huntsman .....most would think his being an ambassador to China and speaking Chinese would be a plus. I am a moderate and would not vote for a republican , they have become to far to the right for me . But if I did he would be the one. He acts and thinks more normal that most in the goofy bunch. Now that Paul's team put this out , he sould pull it , it is an embarrassment to him for rational thinkers.

This is bogus. The account was started the same day the video was posted and Huntsman's campaign was the first to link to it. I didn't think Huntsman would stoop that low.

In a normal Republican era, Huntsman would be their man. He has the goods – all the great skills, successes as a governor, and background to be the POTUS. However, he thinks, talks and acts in a normal smart way. He should run as an Independent. Maybe this is training ground for him, and next time around he will come back. He does have the potential to be a great president.
