Santorum predicts one on one primary battle

Derry, New Hampshire (CNN) - Rick Santorum said Monday that the battle for the Republican nomination may not have an end in the immediate future, but he said it will come down to two people: him and former Gov. Mitt Romney.

"It'll be Mitt Romney against Rick Santorum, and we'll win this race," Santorum said with confidence.

BREAKING: White House chief of staff stepping down

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama announced Monday that White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley is stepping down and will be replaced by Office of Management and Budget Director Jack Lew.

Two senior Obama aides told CNN that Daley will stay in his job through January, including the State of the Union address.

Romney tries to correct stumbles

Hudson, New Hampshire (CNN) – In response to widening attacks on his record at a private equity firm and mockery over two recent comments about firings, Mitt Romney charged his rivals with putting free enterprise "on trial" Monday.

The candidate took questions from the press for the first time in a week as his campaign tried to tamp down self-inflicted damage a day before New Hampshire voters head to the polls.

Brown boasts lucrative fourth quarter

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Scott Brown's campaign raked in more than $3.2 million during its fourth quarter fundraising, his campaign announced to supporters on Monday.

The Massachusetts senator, who's expected to face a competitive re-election bid against Democratic front-runner Elizabeth Warren, finished off the year with $8.5 million and $12.8 million cash on hand.

Palin endorses (Todd, that is)

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich announced Monday he received the backing of Todd Palin, husband of former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

At an early afternoon Rotary Club meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, Gingrich said he just learned of the developments.

Big money at play: S.C. ad buy for pro-Romney group

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - An independent group backing Mitt Romney confirmed it will spend $2.3 million to run TV commercials on South Carolina airwaves in support of the former Massachusetts governor's bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

The move by the super PAC "Restore Our Future" comes as a third party group supporting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also gets ready to go up on South Carolina airwaves with multi-million dollar ad buy to run commercials that are critical of Romney's record on creating jobs when he headed the private equity firm Bain Capital.

Iowa City, Iowa (CNN) - As polls and pundits try to handicap the Republican nomination race, the smart money may be on a little-known commodity market which has proven to be a leading indicator of trends in campaigns.

"Traders have incentive not to tell us what they want to happen... but what they think will happen," said Joyce Berg, who directs the Iowa Electronic Markets, or IEM, at the University of Iowa.

Greenville, South Carolina (CNN) - Rick Perry ripped into Mitt Romney on Monday after the former Massachusetts governor told voters in New Hampshire that he knows what it's like to worry about getting a pink slip.

Perry, campaigning in South Carolina, cast Romney as an out-of-touch corporate raider with a long record of hurting workers.
