Gingrich fires up down South

Rock Hill, South Carolina (CNN) – Newt Gingrich assailed the bipartisan establishment Wednesday in a fiery speech 10 days before the South Carolina primary, a contest critical for the lagging presidential candidate.

After finishing a disappointing fourth in the first two nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire, Gingrich questioned Mitt Romney's credentials and whether the frontrunner can beat President Barack Obama.

"You're not going to beat a billion dollar machine with dishonesty, with somebody who is inarticulate or confused or doesn't quite know where they stand," Gingrich said.

He said the state's January 21 primary will likely determine the Republican Party's nominee.

"I believe that South Carolinians are either going to center in and pick one conservative, or by default, we're going to send a moderate on to the nomination," he said.

The former House speaker disputed charges that he is against capitalism by questioning Romney's career at Bain.

"Criticizing specific actions ... is not being anti-free enterprise. And crony capitalism where people pay each other off at the expense of the people of this country is not free enterprise and raising questions about that is not wrong."

Gingrich opened up his remarks at the Laurel Creek Country Club by inviting children up to the stage. He launched into being "fed up" with the tone of American politics.

"You have a bipartisan establishment that has been running this country, that has created a gigantic mess. You have bureaucracies that are out of control, judges who think they can be dictators. You have systems around this country. You have laws that don't work. So, we have got to change not just Obama, we have got to change the entire direction of the United States of America to get it back on track and that is our obligation to these young people."

He said he will continue to speak the truth even if it draws Republican foes.

"If you speak out every effort is made to distort, confuse what you're saying because what you're saying may be so frightening to the establishment," said Gingrich. "And I'll let you decide whether this is where you want America to go and whether you're willing to help in the next 10 days to get there."

Sniffit - Here's a free clue: As an obviously rabid Faux Noise, right wing talk radio, Limbaugh-Beck, tinfoil hat wearing, card carrying member of the GOP/Teatroll dittohead brigade, you should probably avoid bringing up the subject of who Obama should have indicted during this first term of his presidency, because the first people on the list are the last GOP POTUS-muppet and his master

Honestly Sniffin, chasing me around topics to post insults and factless avoidance of the topic responses??? I guess Obama losing in the polls in FL has got you all upset. Bu thten again, most of your posts are pointless rants that usually end in some statement about 2000 or 2004. You need to get a good look at a calander buddy! 2012 is HERE!! It's "Send Obama Packinbg Year"!!!

Oh dear god no, they cant send a moderate, what will we do if the republican nominee isn’t extremist enough.
On a side note, the words “Gingrich fires up down south” can be interpreted in a number of ways, some of which are not fit for polite company.

I am not sure any repube can beat Obama. Americans have had the opportunity to see the republican clown show, 24/7, for the last six months, and the real campaign has not even started. Wait until Mittens' record is put under the microscope, when people get to see how much he is beholden to Wall Street, and how many jobs he shipped overseas. The republicans might view Newt as the better candidate between he and Mittens, when this plays out.

It isn't the old guard within the party that are attacking Newt. It is the extremists from the right wing, who have found legs to walk on and shoulders to stand on that known as the Tea Party. Witness the pre-XMAS debacle in the House between Boehner, McConnell, and the Tea Party freshman in the House. Had Newt still been in the Congress, he would have been in the old guard camp with Boenher and McConnell. Name one old guard Republican who is after Newt. You cannot.

Is it an insult to call a crazy lying right wingnut crazy, or is it just the truth?

Granted, Newt could do a better job than Obama (anybody could, maybe even diridi) but he has too much in his past that makes me not quite trust him. Perhaps the best version would be a Huntsman/Rice ticket.

Newt isn't even a bad politition any more.....he's just plain nuts. Every time he opens his mouth he spews hate and lies, and I have yet to hear anything positive about how he would lead. I think he needs some professional help.....really.

Don't agree with Newt on much, but do agree with him that Romney is dishonest. I wish someone would ask Romney what constructive thing he has been doing since he lost the last GOP nomination to John McCain.

Gee, it almost sound like Newt has actually been "saved" by something benevolent and selfless. But, how long will it last? I hope it lasts longer than his the time it takes for his money to run out. I know! Hey Newt, write a book about it and go on tour.

Romney's going to lose in SC. And I'm not even a supporter of either Romney or the other GOP candidates. I'm just a resident of SC. On the ground here – people are getting fired up to vote for Newt and Ron Paul in a big way. Haven't seen anything like this here in a very long time – not even when Bush, Jr. was running the first time.

I don't know who you support but Thanks for SHARING THE GOOD NEWS.

Actually, your posts consistently demonstrate an avoidance of the topic. Even more, your posts demonstrate a fundamental ability to even grasp the topic and the existing facts related to the topic. Better luck in the future!

and if that someone asked Romney that (or any other question), you can expect the same answer...."It's Obama's fault. I won't answer your question but i will deflect any attention away from my ideas/whatever by saying 'Obama bad'".....and the sheep will eat it up like the mindless drones they are
