(CNN) - A new poll shows President Barack Obama statistically tied with Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney in Florida, a state that holds its primary on January 31 and widely expected to be a swing state in the general election.
According to a Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday, Romney took in 46% of support among Florida's registered voters, while Obama came in at 43%.

The three percentage-point margin falls within the range of the poll's sampling error.
Also significant, Rick Santorum took high marks in a hypothetical matchup against Obama. The former Pennsylvania senator received 43% compared to Obama's slightly higher 45 - also representing a margin within the sampling error.
While Obama carries the state's voters in the 18-49 age range, Santorum beat Obama - 49% to 40% - among voters in the 50 to 64 demographic and 53% to 39% among those 65 and older, two key voting blocs in the Sunshine State.
Obama narrowly won Florida in 2008 against Arizona Sen. John McCain by three points.
The poll was conducted entirely before New Hampshire's Tuesday primary, a contest Romney won by a big lead over his GOP rivals. Instead, the survey occurred in the days that followed the Iowa caucuses, where Romney essentially tied with Santorum at 25%, edging him out by only eight votes.
The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute surveyed 1,412 registered voters by telephone January 4-8, with a sampling error of 2.6 percentage points.
- CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jessica Yellin contributed to this story.
As long as Mitt keeps running on the slogan that the 99% is simply envious of the 1% then Obama will win in a landslide.
This voter if sick to death of hearing Romney's constant lies and propaganda vilifying and demeaning Pres. Obama. Even the other Republican candidates know Romney is a despicable vulture capitalist who will do or say anything to gain power.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Fair is Fair
"Tied with Santorum? I think Rick is a nice guy and all, but for an incumbent president to be tied with an ex-senator little known outside his own state is, well... delicious!!"
Little known? If people in Florida watch the news then they know Santorum's name from his tie with Mitt in Iowa. For the moment, Santorum has name recognition (other than his Google problem), but its unlikely to last as people learn the details about him. I'll remind you the Santorum lost his Senate seat to a Democrat in a deeply conservative section of Pennsylvania.

"Please Romney, cut the Obama Administration's, (aka our Grandchildren's), credit Card into pieces, Stop the out of control Federal Government spending and re-organize as you did with Bain Capital!
Anyone that can't grasp the magnitude and future impact of our economic crisis simply prefers to ride the gravy train until it eventually derails into disaster.
Mitt Romney is the only Candidate that has the balls to acknowledge what most of us don't want to see or hear!"
^ a fact free post, if ever there was one
OK, why are we taking such a poll this early in the game? How much do these polls end up costing (apiece), and who foots the bill? I would really like to know. Thank you.
Mitt is running around saying "He'll repeal Obamacare" Well Seniors wake up.....Do you realize that if Mitt and the boys get in and repeal Obamacare, you go back to the HUGE Donut hole for Meds........You start to once again have co pays for wellness visits....ETC ETC ETC ....WAKE UP FLORIDA.........This guy Mitt and his buddies are TOXIC
@Al-NY,NY
I'd rather see Obama reform a centrist government with Huntsman as VP.
Let's not screw this up this time FL. Remember the Alamo 2000!! How'd the last GOPer to win FL workout for you? Obama2012!
I live in Santa Rosa County and I can promise you OBAMA is not winning anything here and this is backed up by his votes from election also. Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties are not winners for Obama. I wonder where he is tied at?
That cant be true ah lot of us weren't polled! Don't believe the hype!
Why do people think Romney will be better at job creation when 25% of the companies his VC company invested in went bankrupt. Mass. was 47th out of 50th in job creation under Romney. This country has recovered 2/3rds of the jobs lost under Obama who inherited the country during the worst part of the Great Resession. 22 months straight of private sector job growth. It's slow growth but it's growth and it would take any pres. years to completely reverse a mess that size.
It does not matter. The President will win..........the GOP has been lying to the American People for a long time
and we not going for it. For those who voted REP in 2010 look what you voted for(nothing). So open up your eyes.
Mitt can not go toe to toe with the President because he is not true to himself. Rick well ................
I sure hope my home state does not vote for Obama this time. Big mistake last time.
Some of you say anything but Obama is alright with you. Come on now. This man has done great things and he is for the People. Stop being a follower of some one else mind and think for yourself. And take your color glasses off.
To the other Dee glad we are on the same page the Republicans are destroying themselves. Democrats can just sit back and enjoy the show and when the time is right come in with the most sensible platform.
It's good to hear that Florida will not be had by the Republicans. The rest of the country can only hope that the elderly won't vote for ending SS, Medicare and Medicaid. Let's hope the Hispanic community doesn't vote for a papers please agenda. And I certainly hope the gay community doesn't think that Republicans welcome them with open arms. And your governor is proof positive of the Republican agenda. All the Republican governors around the country have proven their agenda. Republicans are preaching that same sermon of trickle-down economics. Make the rich, richer and they will shower us with their love. Yea right.
Oh man, I'd be laughing so hard at these demo liberals posting on here if it wasn't just so darned sad. Education in America really is lacking. Do they all really think we can continue to just spend, spend, spend and not suffer the consequences? Oh, right, they actually do! C'mon Uncle Sam, gimme, gimme, gimme!
