Romney super PAC pummels Santorum and Gingrich by mail

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - "Restore Our Future" – a super PAC backing Mitt Romney - has saturated the television airwaves in South Carolina with more than $2 million worth of ads attacking Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.

But the group has also stepped up its direct-mail campaign against the two Republicans in the past 48 hours.

Since Thursday, South Carolina GOP voters have received at least three mailers from "Restore Our Future" pummeling Santorum's record on earmarks and warning Republicans against Gingrich's "political baggage."

The mail pieces were provided to CNN by voters in Columbia and Greenville.

All three of the postcard-like mailers take aim at Santorum, while one of them features Santorum on the front and Gingrich on the flip side.

Read the new mail pieces here, here and here.

On two of the mailers, Santorum is portrayed in a particularly harsh light: A doctored graphic depicts the former Pennsylvania senator with his arms raised above his head, bathing in a shower of dollar bills.

"Because of career politicians like Rick Santorum, EARMARK SPENDING in Washington has been OUT-OF-CONTROL," blares the front of one postcard.

Santorum has not backed down from his prolific record of earmarking federal money for his constituents when he was in Congress, arguing that so-called "pork barrel" spending is not a central reason for ballooning deficits.

"The main problem is out-of-control entitlement costs," he says.

Isn't it convenient how they threw all of the campaign finance rules out the window just in time for Obama's reelection?

Willard Mitt and his PAC supporters just might give the U.S. Post office a real chance at becoming profitable...too bad most of that garbage goes in the trash. S.C. voters are going to remember the ENVY line that characterized them as being envious of rich people.

Is it ok for Romney to attack Rick and Newt but for them to attack Romney is unacceptable that's stupid.

  10. Former Republican, now an Independent

The republicans will demonstrate how money can buy elections in the U.S. Thanks to the republican dominated Supreme Court, they now don't even have to tell who, or what country contributed their money.

Sorry Rick, Newt, not this time around – this is the year of the plutocrat candidate – you yokels don't stand a chance with all the wall street money funding romneys campaign. They're looking to buy the presidency.

Give thanks to the lap-dogs of the Republican Party – the US Supreme Court. Their ruling on PACs allows corporate fat-cats to buy the politician of their choice. This year's dancing monkey is Mitt Romney.
