TRENDING: Gingrich's Secretary Palin?

(CNN) - If Newt Gingrich wins the White House in November, the former House speaker said Wednesday Sarah Palin may get a big seat at the table.

"I would ask her to consider taking a major role in the next administration if I'm president, but nothing has been discussed of any kind," Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Tune in Thursday at 8 p.m. ET for the CNN/Southern Republican Presidential Debate hosted by John King and follow it on Twitter at #CNNDebate. For real-time coverage of the South Carolina primary, go to or to the CNN apps or CNN mobile web site.

His comments came one day after Palin urged South Carolina voters to head to the polls for Gingrich during Saturday's first-in-the-South primary.

She said a win for Gingrich would prolong the Republican primary and allow voters more time to vet the remaining candidates.

Asked if he would consider the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee to be his own running-mate this time around, Gingrich insisted it was too early to discuss a possible short list.

"Certainly, she's one of the people I'd call on for advice," Gingrich said.

Palin for VP? Why Gingrich would pick this political poison is beyond me. He is going to go down in flames just like McCain.

Newt has been pulling out all the stops to win the Republican primary including letting Mitt dog out, lying and crying but I never expected him to sink as low as saying he would offer Palin a seat at any table including the dinner table.

Newt doesn't realize that Sarah Pailin is the reason that he (or any other Republican) is NOT going to get elected. Sarah Palin is a narcissist in the clinical sense of the term. I think she's a Republican out of convenience. She belongs to a party that has two members - Sarah and Todd. She wants to be President, but she couldn't be bothered with this primary nonsense. No matter who the Republican nominee is, she is going to run a third party "tea party" campaign. She'll say something along the lines of "there is no candidate who represents real American values, so I'm reluctantly throwing my hat into the ring, because someone has to represent the American people." She'll screw up the election for the Republicans. And she'll do it because not only does she think she'll get more votes than Obama, she thinks she'll get more votes than the Republican.

Oh please tell me this isn't so! These two are going bonkers. I am a life-long Democrat who happens NOT to support our current president nor his administration. If these two were in the mix (Gingrich and Palin); the country would be handing a second term to our clueless/divisive president.

    Stay tuned. God help America!!!

It's like they're throwing dice. "OK, it's a three and a four, let's see, that would be Newt and Sarah." Ironically, all of the republican candidates are in fact zeroes.

Great pair – One forced to resign and one who keeps resigning on her own – can't the GOP do a whole lot better than this?

Proof Positive that A) he is off his rocker and B) that he is desparate! Only a desparate man would offer her ANYTHING – he thinks he can suck her in and get her endorsement and whatever votes she can bring to the table!
I think I will go puke now!

Grinch-ich, you have to be kidding? She sank McCain for his lack of vetting and failure to admit that this multi-time loser was totally unqualified and now the Noot suggests a "place at the table". She isn't even qualified to be the server. While she may appeal to the "know nothing" base, this isn't Alaska and it certainly brings into question the Noot's judgement.

This a definitive proof that Gingrich should not be allowed anywhere near the WH. Seriously, Newt? What are you sizing her up for your next affair?

If he chooses Palin for VP, he will lose terribly. She killed it for Mccain and would do the same for Gingrich !!

The best thing about this potential ticket would be the endless fodder that Saturday Night Live would have available to them for the next four years (if Sarah doesn't decide to quit halfway through again...)!
