TRENDING: Gingrich's Secretary Palin?

(CNN) - If Newt Gingrich wins the White House in November, the former House speaker said Wednesday Sarah Palin may get a big seat at the table.

"I would ask her to consider taking a major role in the next administration if I'm president, but nothing has been discussed of any kind," Gingrich said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Tune in Thursday at 8 p.m. ET for the CNN/Southern Republican Presidential Debate hosted by John King and follow it on Twitter at #CNNDebate. For real-time coverage of the South Carolina primary, go to CNNPolitics.com or to the CNN apps or CNN mobile web site.

His comments came one day after Palin urged South Carolina voters to head to the polls for Gingrich during Saturday's first-in-the-South primary.

She said a win for Gingrich would prolong the Republican primary and allow voters more time to vet the remaining candidates.

Asked if he would consider the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee to be his own running-mate this time around, Gingrich insisted it was too early to discuss a possible short list.

"Certainly, she's one of the people I'd call on for advice," Gingrich said.

Sarah Palin is very well qualified, based on her performance as Governor and as a candidate, for at least two cabinet positions that I can think of.

She could easily serve as the Secretaryof (mis)Education or as the Secretary of Transportation To Nowhere.

Gingrich has to be the worst person running for the office of the president 2012 PERIOD. Newt Gingrich is a smooth talker with no integrity (personal or political). I am stunned that ANYONE would vote for this man. He isn't "for the little guy". He's out for himself and always has been. He's got a record a mile long of doing awful things to individual people AND the people of the United States. He is about as unChristian as you can get in his values for the religious voters with treating his many wives like Senator Edwards did his own wife (remember Elizabeth Edwards)? This man is a shyster.

I know what would be the perfect job for her.
We all know how Republican hate telepromtor, so she'll be Gingrich's Administration's human promtor. She'll write speeches on her hands and hold them up so he can read them.

Oh no, please dont tell me it's going to be Ric Santorum now getting the nomination. Romney is out because of his off shore accounts and now Gingrich mentioning Palin as an adviser, he is done too.

If Newt wants to hire Caribou Barbie as his secretary, I think it's great she will finally have a job she is qualified to do! Sharpen pencils, make coffee, dictation, hiding Newt's mistresses... No offense intended to real executive assistants..
Interesting Republican short term memory. I hope he remembers she was political poison in 2008. If she is in the running for any position, he has even less chances than he has now.

Newt has just proved himself certifiably nuts by this statement. Putting this half-witted half-governor in any high position demonstrates either desperation of sheer insanity.

This wouldn't be like dumb and dumber. It would be dumb and dumbest! I think this provides the final peice of evidence showing that Gingrich is a complete idiot! To even consider Palin is spectaculary stupid. I think Michelle Bachman may be the only woman in politics that is dumber than Palin.

I think that a President Gingrich would consider Palin for Secretary of Defense because she's so good at killing things with a gun, or Secretary of State because she can "see Russia from her house."
