Gingrich campaign admits error

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich's campaign admitted Wednesday night the former House speaker was inaccurate when he claimed his team offered several witnesses to ABC News to refute statements made by Gingrich's second wife in a controversial interview aired last week.

CNN Chief National Correspondent John King reported the campaign said it only recommended Gingrich's two daughters from his first marriage, who wrote a letter discouraging ABC to release the interview.

Marianne Gingrich claimed in the ABC interview that her husband asked for an open marriage while he was having an extramarital affair with his current wife, Callista Gingrich.

"The story was false. Every personal friend I have who knew us in that period says the story is false. We offered several of them to ABC to prove it was false. They weren't interested," Gingrich said at a CNN debate last week.

In an interview on Tuesday, King pressed Gingrich on those claims, saying ABC News insisted no such witnesses were put forward.

Gingrich said ABC's defense was "just plain baloney."

"If they're saying that, then they're not being honest," Gingrich said. "We had several people prepared to be very clear and very aggressive in their dispute about that, and (ABC News) wasn't interested."

On Wednesday, however, the campaign conceded the candidate was wrong, both in his debate answer and in his interview with CNN on Tuesday.

R.C. Hammond, the campaign's press secretary, told CNN the only people the campaign offered to ABC were the speaker's two daughters, Jackie Cushman and Kathy Gingrich Lubbers, who make regular appearances for their father on the campaign trail.

So, someone will actually vote for a man who dumps his first and second wife to marry the person he is being adulterous with. Than he dumps a dying wife because he can't wait until she dies to marry that mistress. He commits 84 ethics violations while in the house. Now he lies about his facts. Why, exactly, would anyone vote for this man?

Reeiping it Real – Of course liberals here will never ask the same of Obama, who has been caught with lies on numerous occasions.

Please document all the "lies" Obama has been caught with along with direct links to facts pointing out that he did not tell the truth.

Offered his children from marriage #1 to call their stepmother from marriage #2 a liar? Oh yeah, great idea! I'm sure the children are liars since they have had a good teacher in their father. He is such a hypocrite. I can't imagine how anyone would vote for him for anything. I wish him and his helmet head wife would just go back to wherever they have been hiding since he had to leave Congress in shame.

This guy Gingrich is clearly a pathological liar and big mouth. He thought he can shut the media by his big mouth. Good for John king and following up on the matter of this liar's infidelity. Americans definitely do not want sucha blatant liar to be president of the US.

Come on now folks! Did anyone actually think Gingrich would tell the truth?
What I cannot understand is why the RNC allows this guy to continue to be potential candidate!

So a sleazy politician tells a lie (with great effect) in a debate and a interview before millions of people. And he later sends his underling press secretary to say he misspoke while no one was listening. Taken right out of the Republican playbook!

It's not that Newt lied, it's that he did not follow up his statement w/the correct disclaimer "the comment was not intended to be factual".

Newt Gingrich is one of the worst kind of dirtbags in the world. He is a liar, has always been a liar, and will always be a liar. He admitted to cheating on his wife, but denies that he asked for an open marriage. "Yeah I did it, but I didn't tell her about it!" How is that any better? Clinton cheats on his wife and is almost thrown out of office, but Gingrich cheats on his wife and is being considered as President? Ridiculous.

they should have to swear an oath to tell the truth before debating for the presidency

You mean, they should lie and say they are going to tell the truth, right ?

Just another example of how Gingrich says one thing, only to find out that he was hiding the truth.....Didn't we go through this once before with, "weapons of mass distruction?" That misleading lie cost us thousands of lives and tons of money. I don't know about you, but I just don't trust another disceptive Republican in the White House.

So the daughters are ethically challenged also. Splitting hairs over adultery is like Clinton trying to know what the definition of is is.

One more reason to NOT vote for Gringrich. I noticed in the last debate that he would not answer tough questions, but instead said they were based on "misinformation" and that he would put the answers on his website. The GOP will lose if they put Gingrich to run agains Obama. Eventhough I like Santorum as a person, Romney is the only logical choice.

LOL! Obama is gonna mop and wax the floor with the GOP's "only logical choice!" These are the weakest and worse GOP presidential candidates to ever run. Newt is a lying, carnival barking blowhard; Romney (Mr. One Percent; logical choice, lol) is a greedy, lying, flip flopper who has absolutely nothing in common with everyday Americans; Santorum is a right winged, bigoted, religous zealot and extremist; and poor old Ron Paul is certifiably insane with his out-of-touch 19th century ideology. What a joke and embarasessment the GOP candidates are. Keep the popcorn handy!

He is doing the forward backstroke in the wrong direction. He will never be President and he knows that. He could never stand up against Obama. He won the battle but is fast loosing the war.

The Newt was forced to admit he lied. The only people he had to confirm his lie were his daughters. It does speak well of the Newt that his girls were willing lie in his defense. But, as Republicans, lies are Mothers Milk to those little darlin's.
    Let the Newt run
    Run you slimy salamander, run.

Obama 2012!!!! See CNN will allow this. I've noticed they control what postings they allow. Pro Obama and anti-conservative are the majority allowed. A few conservatives are allowed with any regularity, i.e. Truth and nothing but, Fair is fair, WiredWierd, only to be targets for the liberals on here.

Attention GOP Leadership: Please call off the debate due to the fact that all of the candidates are in the dark when it comes to understanding the Middle Class, the Poor, the Elderly, and of course Hispanics and Latinos.
