Pelosi: 'Instinct' says Gingrich won't be president

Washington (CNN) - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi Thursday dismissed the idea she knows something secret about former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that would disqualify him from being president, saying it's just her "instinct" - based on the public record.

Pelosi ruled out Gingrich's chances of becoming the GOP nominee Tuesday when she told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, "He's not going to be President of the United States. That's not going to happen."

Gingrich coup conspirator: Gingrich has 'mellowed' and is 'electable'

Washington (CNN) - South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham was so fed up with Newt Gingrich's leadership as speaker in the 1990s, he helped organize a coup attempt and even held meetings about it in his Capitol office when he was a member of the House.

But now, Senator Graham tells CNN he believes Gingrich – who last week won the South Carolina primary in a landslide – has "mellowed," and even says he is "electable" and believes he would make a good president.

Mount Dora, Florida (CNN) –Newt Gingrich offered a strong rebuke to Mitt Romney Thursday, calling his campaign "dishonest" and "grotesquely hypocritical" for pointing out his ties to the housing market crisis.

Obama pushes clean energy theme in Nevada visit

(CNN) - President Barack Obama took his push for an expanded federal role in clean energy on the road Thursday, telling a Las Vegas crowd it's part of an "all-out, all-in, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy."

Among other things, Obama promised more federal assistance for local governments to upgrade their automotive fleets while also pushing new tax incentives for cleaner corporate vehicles. The president also said the administration is working to develop up to five highway natural gas corridors, and he announced a new competition to encourage the development of breakthroughs for natural gas vehicles.

Super PACs' money could tip balance of power in Congress

Washington (CNN) - The 2010 Supreme Court ruling that allows unlimited contributions by corporations and unions has already affected the 2012 presidential campaign. But it could play a larger part in the balance of power in Congress this fall.

Voters in three states have been bombarded with television and Web advertising, automated phone calls and direct mailing, most of it directed against a candidate rather than in support of one. And in Florida, which votes Tuesday, spending is going up by the day.

Santorum trashes Gingrich moon colony

Tallahassee, Florida (CNN) - A day after Newt Gingrich vowed to build a base on the moon by the end of his second term in office, Rick Santorum suggested that such a promise was merely pandering to Florida voters.

"The idea that anybody's going out and talking about brand new, very expensive schemes to spend more money at a time when we do not have our fiscal house in order in my opinion is playing crass politics and not being realistic with the people of this country as to the nature and gravity of the problem," Santorum said Thursday.
