Romney to Gingrich: 'Look in the mirror'

Naples, Florida (CNN) - Keeping up his attacks on Newt Gingrich, a fiery Mitt Romney suggested Sunday that the former House speaker "look in the mirror" to understand why his campaign seemed to be faltering in Florida.

The former Massachusetts governor, who polls show widening his lead over his rival in Florida, accused the former House speaker of "finding excuses everywhere he can" and likened him to President Barack Obama.

"He's on TV this morning going from station to station complaining about what he thinks were the reasons he thinks he's had difficulty here in Florida," Romney told an audience of roughly 2,000 at an outdoor rally. "But you know, we've got a president who has a lot of excuses, and the excuses are over, it's time to produce."

The cause of Gingrich's drop in Florida polls was simple, Romney continued.

"If we failed somewhere, if we failed the debate, if we failed to get the support of people, it's time to look in the mirror. And my own view is the reason that Speaker Gingrich has been having a hard time in Florida is that people of Florida have watched the debates, have listened to the speaker, have listened to the other candidates and have said, 'You know what, Mitt Romney's the guy we're going to support,'" he said.

Romney's effort in Florida was also aided by millions of dollars spent on ads attacking Gingrich and an aggressive push by Romney to savage his rival on the stump and in nationally televised debates.

On Sunday, Romney revived an attack on Gingrich's past consulting work for troubled mortgage giant Freddie Mac, and in doing so, highlighted the housing crisis that has ravaged Florida.

"Your problem in Florida is that you worked for Freddie Mac at a time when Freddie Mac was not doing the right thing for the American people," Romney said. "And that you're selling influence in Washington at a time when we need people who will stand up for the truth in Washington."

At the balmy winter rally in thriving downtown Naples, where voters wore t-shirts and some brought homemade signs, a father-son surrogate duo took swipes at Gingrich as they introduced Romney.

Former Sen. Connie Mack III and his son, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack IV, both jabbed Gingrich without mentioning the former speaker's name.

Rep. Mack alluded to a charge by Gingrich that Romney was "dishonest" during a debate Thursday, telling the audience not to believe other candidates who "tell you that somehow he's not honest."

"There are others in this race that have a very checkered past when it comes to ethics and honesty," Mack said. "But not Mitt Romney. He's someone we can believe in and trust."

Rep. Mack alluded to a charge by Gingrich that Romney was "dishonest" ......not only dishonest, a big liar, deceitful, sickening and the biggest corporate volture and he better be careful when he mentions rubio who was the biggest failure in the Florida assembly and now in the senate he has not done a darn thing for us here in the sunshine state, he is completely oblivious, inept and incompetent and if marquito wants to take him for coffe to a cuban restaurant, there are hundreds of better hispanic restaurants in Miami, we true independents and hispanics will NOT VOTE for the fake MIXED MEX MITT.

The entire group is made up of liars. As was expected the GOP = GREEDY OPPOSITION PARTY's nominating process has turned into the mud-slinging free for all which does nothing to provide the kind of information voters need to select a candidate. Negative campaigning works. Success is measured by how bad one makes their opponent look not how bad each candidate really is. Romney will likely win in the end, but will weakened so badly his chances in November will quite grim.

I can see the blind support to Romney for two reason he will keep the Bush tax cut and low interest rate.

t the end of this 'fight to the end' conducted by these two candidates, one of them will be 'dead', and the other moribund. Who wants a casualty case for president?

Mitt, don't you know that Newt is afraid to look in the mirror for fear that those buttons will fly off and hit himself in the eye?

We should believe Newt. He knows what dishonesty is, and he has an ethics violation to prove it. Anyone who calls a fine a reimbursement can spot a lie six blocks away.

Gingrich has been looking in the mirror all his life and all he sees is Newt, Newt, Newt and that will never change. Besides that, what can Clarissa be called, The Third Lady, these are 2 birds of a feather; she was cheating as well as he was cheating.

Looks like Flipper the Elitist Robot is doubling down on his big Fannie/Freddie lie. He better be careful; the average voter may start doing some research. When they realize it was Wall Street that stole our money, Rmoney will be sweating even worse than he does now.

I would love to see a real boxing match between Romney and Gingrich. We will find out who hits below the belt.

I have watched all the debates and I have seen Romney avoid answering, lie, flip-flop, attack like a rabid dog, and he never impressed me. When it became apparent that he may lose the big guns from the establishment came out to conduct a public stoning on Newt. If people can’t see what is going on, then I am terrified of our future as a nation. We have no free object press, and now no party that respect the will of the people. I will not give away the only little bit of power I have, my vote, to a groups of thugs.

It seems to me that Romneys actions reflect a liberal morality.

He never knew about it, someone else did it not him, Some other group is responsible and was handling it for him. It's never his fault and he's not responsible for it.
Last debate the question about his campaign ad Romney responded with are you sure that it was my ad? When it was verified as his ad did he accept responsibility? No he obfuscated by turning and attacking Newt. Sounds a lot like (that depends on what the definition of is is). He believed in abortion before he was against abortion. He implemented Romney care which created medical mandates on future generations in Massachusetts but says he doesn't believe in it at the Federal level.
(Romney care was claimed by Obama as his model).

Presidential material? What happened to (THE BUCK STOPS HERE)? Americans are going to get what they ask for once again. With Romney your getting Obama Lite... Is this what you want or do we want someone who speaks truth and has real conservative and constitutional convictions? Just sayin??????????????

I don't know. I've heard so many things coming out of Romney that, obviously, fail in the face of facts. I think he's got too much "baggage" and he doesn't know how to handle it when asked. He panics and says whatever his brain can put together to negate the impact of the question. Often that response is NOT the truth! So how can we believe he can be trusted in ANY circumstance, even when he's NOT in a panic?

No body in the press will ever ask Mitt Romney why none of his five sons volunteered for military service .

I like Romney because I believe he is someone people can trust to do the right thing for America's freedoms by following constitutional principles that I believe made this country great. But, I do not believe in Washington politics or those who make their living there.

The Supreme Court will be reviewing OBAMACARE during the month of March 2012. Remember, ROMNEY wrote ROMEYCARE and President Obama utilized ROMNEYCARE to wrote OBAMACARE!

FLORIDA VOTERS - do not allow ROMNEY to rewrite history and force all America to have OBAMACARE!

ROMNEY also had shady dealing including: off shore accounts and who really received the benefits from all those jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs that Romney claims to have develped? Was it ROMNEY....ROMNEY is the person with all the money!

ROMNEYCARE and OBAMACARE are one of the same!

    A vote for ROMNEY = OBAMA 2012!

    A vote for ROMNEY = OBAMACARE 2012!

(spread this message to all....pass it on!)

All Romney has to do is remind blacks and Hispanics in Florida what the newterman has said about them.
He has literally called blacks (as a whole) lazy and Hispanics ghetto people.
Oh yeah, that would go really well if it got out in Florida before Monday. Is the Miami Herald or any other large newspaper in Florida reporting on this? It's on tape. This is not made up.

I lost money on the sale of my house early this year, in large part because all the foreclosures on the market were factored into determining the 'comp value'.

I won't be supporting or voting for ANYONE who signed a contract with and worked for the chief lobbyist at Freddie Mac.
