Romney vows to fight back

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - Mitt Romney said he's learned his lesson from a stinging loss in South Carolina.

"If you're attacked, I'm not going to just sit back," he told reporters in Tampa on Tuesday, repeating a refrain he's used regularly recently. "I'm going to fight back and fight back hard."

He immediately hammered that lesson home, unleashing a string of harsh attacks on his rival Newt Gingrich. He accused the former House speaker of whining and of making attacks on Romney that were "painfully revealing" and "really quite sad."

The press conference capped off 10 days in Florida in which Romney dropped the above-the-fray approach he had used throughout the campaign, and instead repeatedly jabbed Gingrich himself.

But while Romney chalked up his South Carolina loss to being "vastly out-spent" on attack ads, he ignored the fact that Gingrich was the candidate out-spent in that state's primary.

The Republican candidate said Tuesday he believed independent voters would not be turned off by the bruising GOP primary, saying many voters are determined to see a new president in office.

"It would be wonderful if campaigns were all nothing but positive, but that's certainly not the reality," Romney said, pointing to a billion dollars he said President Barack Obama was prepared to use against him.

Romney was also asked at his press conference to outline his plan to turn around the housing market.

The GOP candidate declined to offer many specifics, but said he would "get the economy going," get people back to work and avoid what he called a mistake by Obama.

"Don't do what President Obama did, which is to stop the process of foreclosure," he said, adding state attorneys general should prosecute those committing fraud. "But the idea of trying to stop the foreclosure process kept it from occurring, kept the market from bottoming and recovering. You have to let the market work and let home values recover as a result of that."

Don't you find it interesting that CNN Political Ticker which has published every "gaffe" by a Republican for years, does not even mention in passing the ones by Obama in his "hangout" on Google yesterday. I certainly think this proves the liberal bias of CNN. And if you need more proof, check out Joe Bidens ridiculous statements and see if CNN reported any of them. The liberal media is in the pocket of the regime.

He's going to get people back to work but get foreclosures going again?

This guy's a talking head, nothing else. He has absolutely ZERO concrete ideas about how to do anything – promises to get people working again but has absolutely no idea about how he's going to do this.

The trouble is, in 2010, when the GOP took back control of Congress, they were basically saying the same thing. "we're going to get people back to work, etc etc etc", lots of grandiose statements but absolutely no concrete ideas as to how to accomplish them.

Even I can say "If I'm elected President people will start working the night of the election" without coming up with an idea as to how this is actually going to happen.

What is truly hilarious is that this is the best the GOP has to offer.

Romney has been the instigator of negative ads in New Hampshire, Florida, Iowa, and South Carolina. But, he is rich, and therefore, unwilling to accept any blame. What a limp writsted lying tool Mittens is.

Unh huh. Christie must've been standing nearby when you said that.
Wealthy, out-of-touch, robotic elitists like you don't know how to fight. You pay others to do your fighting for you. MITTENS.

The flip flopper is just too funny. All I have heard on the radio and TV today is you attacking the President for something he has no control over but the auto makers in the US owe him their jobs. Why let facts get in the say. Imwouldnwait until you and fat boy are done then come after th President even if won't help you one iota!
BTW the economy is doing better but I doubt that when your "salary" (since you said you are unemployed) comes from interest from banks in the US and abroad. You just don't get it! Nyou and your buddies eaten any money lately? Nice picture of you and thrum pretending to when you were all super rich brats!

Mitt Romney and camp have had some very negative adds and he acts as if he has not engaged in any attacks. I suppose he won't take his own advice when it is time to debate Barack Obama in the fall. Then again, he can't trust a thing Mitt Romney says!

I love to hear the right wing crybabies complain that President Obama has recieved such "genteel" treatment from the press, when that is the farthest thing from the truth.

C'mon, kids, get in the real world. Hitch up yer drawers and TRY to act like adults for ONCE in your lives.

We can add "punk" to your list of non-desirable character traits Mittens, right next to flip-flopper, liar, two-faced, mealy-mouth, rabble-rouser, and excels at playing the victim.

What a tough guy.....Obama is shaking is his boots listening to you and your big talk. You outspent Newt in SC but claim the opposite..."But while Romney chalked up his South Carolina loss to being "vastly out-spent" on attack ads, he ignored the fact that Gingrich was the candidate out-spent in that state's primary." you'll win today. You will be barely 10% of the way for delegates so stop the crowing and say something meaningful for a change. It's a long way to go Mittens

A number of polls show independents are rejecting Romney. When will foreign owned media, Fox, finally report that to the baggers?

Romney gets points for the funny and devastating remark about Newt's ads being "painfully revealing"; however, he loses points for wanting banks to foreclose on homes owned by struggling Americans. Comments like these are why he's fading in the national polls against Obama.

Wired, its because the GOP is in opposition to common sense and problem solving that their gaffes get reported more frequently. If you find the coverage so one-sided, go to FOX and the rest of the conservative, foreign-owned media so you can have your viewpoint validated, no matter how incorrect and un-American it may be. You would have loved Pravda back in the day: it meant "truth", yet never demonstrated it.

This coming from the DIRTIEST politician out there. He attacked Newt relentlessly in Iowa and has attacked our president NON STOP for the last six years – but all of a sudden (he has convenient amnesia) and wants to pretend these attacks didn't happen. I can't wait to see him try his bag of recycled tricks on President Obama. Obama will have a field day with him and he won't be able to demand an audience to cheer him on.
