Poll: Romney's big lead in Nevada

(CNN) – Mitt Romney has opened a double digit lead over rival New Gingrich in Nevada, according to a new poll of likely Republican caucus-goers.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal and 8NewsNow poll released Thursday showed Romney with 45% support followed by Gingrich with 25%, Rick Santorum with 11% and Ron Paul with 9%.

Gingrich hammers Romney over 'poor' comment

Reno, Nevada (CNN) – White House hopeful Newt Gingrich cast Mitt Romney as out of touch with most Americans after his Republican presidential opponent took heat over remarks he made about the poor Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Romney sought to clarify a comment he made on CNN, in which he said he was not “concerned about the very poor.” The candidate later argued his words were taken out of context and re-iterated the full context of the quote, which was largely about his focus on the middle class.

Dobson makes surprise appearance at Santorum event

Colorado Springs, Colorado (CNN) -– Often seen as the candidate best-equipped to appeal to social conservatives, Rick Santorum tried to capitalize on that reputation by welcoming special guest James Dobson on stage with him Wednesday night for a one-on-one conversation.

After delivering a pointed version of his stump speech before a crowd of more than 1,200 people at Mr. Biggs Family Funhouse here, Santorum introduced Dobson, founder of the conservative group Focus on the Family.
