Crowley: Mood might mean more than stats come election time

Washington (CNN) - Suppose they held an election, and the economy got better. Just last month, the jobless rate fell to its lowest level in almost three years.

"I wouldn't pop the champagne cork yet," Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a Republican, told CBS.

The HUD decision that affected Catholic hospitals and universities health care plans will be an issue.

The conservative argument is false and misleading. They argue that the government is forcing the church to against its' principles and teachings. That assertion is totally false. No one is telling Catholic hospitals that they must provide abortions. No one is telling the doctors at those hospitals that they must provide prescriptions for contraceptives. The government is telling the institutions that they cannot deny legally available medical their health plans for their employees, even if it is abortion and contraceptives.

Disagree? Let's look at a different scenario, one that I believe the Catholic church may agree with. The Watchtower Society is the organization behind Jehovah's Witnesses, and it employs many people at their printing presses at various locations around the country. Their faith prohibits blood transfusions. Most people who work at their locations are members of the faith.

Suppose a man works as a press mechanic. He marries a woman, has kids, and later divorces that woman over differences of faith. The divorce court decrees that he must provide the kids medical insurance. One kid needs heart surgery that requires a blood transfusion. Should his health plan be able to deny the kid the life saving blood transfusion?

I'm so sick of the gloom and doom and negativity coming out of the republican party.

I'll take hope and a positive attitude ANY day. If they truly think there's no hope, why are they hanging around? Just end it and quit trying to bring the rest of us down.

    A joyful heart ........................................

Hey a lot of repubs shouts that the economy grew at 1.7 percent last year. First of all 1 company failure that brought the country to the second worst economy disaster in history (penance brother). Our economy had to put up with three great factors last year: the disaster of America's biggest trading partner in Japan, Europe declining economy, and the extreme right winged Republican obstructionism. Yet some way the economy was strong enough to grow. Only if the repubs obstructionist would allow this president to modernize this country by allowing old ultra rich folks to invest tax money into the country so that their grand kids have an America to live in, with a middle class they can depend on.

The problem we have in our country is cooperation! Anyone within a family can tell you that is a key ingredient....once a situation has stopped deteriorating (economy) cooperation speeds the recovery. A time out for some republicans might be required to restore the party of "family values" to this way of thinking!!!
