Washington (CNN) - The Alice in Wonderland state of American politics has just reached a new level.
Nancy Pelosi, the stately, serious former House speaker released a video satire Thursday going after comedian Stephen Colbert for his super PAC.

The must-watch-it-to-believe it video features the House Democratic leader narrating under black and white pictures of Colbert, saying he "used to be my friend. I even signed the poor baby's cast."
She then calls him "out of control" for taking money from special interests for his super PAC.
The kicker: with the now infamous picture of Pelosi on the couch with Newt Gingrich, Pelosi says Colbert "even used his super PAC to attack my friend Newt Gingrich."
At the end of the video, Pelosi gets to her serious point. She is promoting the so-called DISCLOSE Act, which House Democrats are reintroducing Thursday. The DISCLOSE act would among other things require more transparency by super PACs in terms of who their donors are.
A Democratic source told CNN their hope is that Colbert responds on his Comedy Central program, in order to get the issue more attention.
This is not the first time Congress has tried to draw on Colbert's popularity to highlight an issue. In September, 2010, A House committee called Colbert to testify on the plight of immigrant workers. Colbert showed up in character – a fake TV host – and the decision to invite him got mixed reviews.

To refer to Mr. Colbert as a genius may be a bit of a stretch, but not by much. He's clearly light years ahead of the rest of the nitwits who contend they're 'serious' and 'well informed' on the issues we're faced with. GO Stephen!!
The various conservatives commenting on this story here are demonstrating yet again that they lack a grasp of reality. Let me give you a clue; the fact that she's "defending her friend Newt". Pelosi is using satire, the exact same tactic Colbert, uses to draw attention to exactly the same cause. Colbert may very well play along, and he must be tickled to death for the opportunity to keep it going.
Hey hey, the Bolshevik Barbie Doll makes the news..wonder if she'll bring her big 14 trillion dollar gavel ...
Don't pick on my idol Pelosi!
This is great! I love how she gets him. I can't wait to see him respond to her "attack" on Monday's show..
More bread and circuses for us while the country goes deeper into debt and thinks about starting more warfare abroad.
Ron Paul 2012 is the only hope.
It's great political theater and uses humor to make a very good point. Contrast that with the wacky right wing going cuckoo for cocoa puffs over a non existent "mandate" about contraception and you see which side is calm and collected and which side's head is about to explode.
Tea Party's over Alice. Get lost and take the Mad Hatter with you.
I like it, Ms Speaker – a humorous way to make a serious point!
This is very cool. Kudos to Stephen Colbert for bringing SuperPACs and other important issues to the forefront.
The funniest part of this piece is the comments. Right wingers for the most part can't grasp the brilliance of this move. Because Limbaugh or Beck didn't report on it, they have no idea what the bill was about. Read it, i believe it's only about 87 pages double spaced, then explain why Republicans voted it down the first time, or why they'll fight it again. Republicans aren't just controlled by the US corporate masters, their also controlled by their foreign masters as well.
Leftists ALWAYS want total control of the airwaves and means of disseminating information. Just ask Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Stalin, Mao, Ho, etc.... The leftist Democrats are no different. It's why they hate Fox News so much. THEY don't own it! The MSM is all liberal run. Unions are a wing of the Democrats. Hollywood, liberal owned and run. Liberal indoctrination in the schools and colleges. Any wonder the country is a mess??!!
Nancy why don't you take another super vacation to Hawaii and get real real close to those volcanos!
Colbert is brilliant, and truly one of the funniest, if not the sharpest comedian on tv. Pelosi 's persona, looks, and agenda remains repulsive to most everyone, except the hard core left..
Ok, for a second I actually thought she was serious but this sounds like a pretty ingenious way to get attention for a bill it seems the majority of America favors in light of how super pacs are being realistically used
I
TERMLIMITS and more Satire!!! That's what DC needs...
Who told her how to do this, SHE didn't think of it!
Superpacs will enslave America.
WOW! The number of posters on this who completely failed to see that Pelosi's "attacks" on Colbert are satirical makes me wish there were intelligence tests before anyone was allowed to vote. She completely understands how Colbert is using his Super PAC to unveiling the absurdity of the campaign finance system and is using him as an ally to raise awareness of what could be meaningful legislation. The attacks on this remind me of the congressment who linked to article in the Onion the other day . . . some people will beleive anything without thinking . . .
@Samian- Are You serious...Nancy Pelosi winning the Presidency in 2016????? I 've got to stop reading these blogs .....You all must be on illegal drugs to even think that remotely, remotely, less than remotely possible.
Who's the bigger joke–Pelosi or Colbert?
"Nancy Pelosi, the stately, serious former House speaker..." LMAO. Was this article satire?
This should be celebrated by both Republicans and Democrats (with that jab at Gingrich aside.) Anyone who wants big money out of politics should be in favor of this idea. I know Pelosi is a polarizing figure, but don't make this partisan.
There's a real strategy going on in the Democrat Party and it ain't no joke.
rude - Superpacs will enslave America
=============================
They're too late. Obamacare has already done it.
I am tired of party loyalists. When will you citizens realize both parties work together to achieve their goals of lining their pockets with campaign donations and special interest money. The elected officials do not want transparency. You would then know who they are bought and sold by. Then the citizen can make a more educated decision on who they will vote for. Politicians are only pushing for this because the public wants it. As soon as the American publics A.D.D. takes over this will end. Make the candidates and officials give up their immunity to the law and when one breaks the law hang them for treason.
Ya gotta give the dame big points for her innovation and adaptation to today's popular culture.
