Pelosi takes on Colbert

Washington (CNN) - The Alice in Wonderland state of American politics has just reached a new level.

Nancy Pelosi, the stately, serious former House speaker released a video satire Thursday going after comedian Stephen Colbert for his super PAC.

The must-watch-it-to-believe it video features the House Democratic leader narrating under black and white pictures of Colbert, saying he "used to be my friend. I even signed the poor baby's cast."

She then calls him "out of control" for taking money from special interests for his super PAC.

The kicker: with the now infamous picture of Pelosi on the couch with Newt Gingrich, Pelosi says Colbert "even used his super PAC to attack my friend Newt Gingrich."

At the end of the video, Pelosi gets to her serious point. She is promoting the so-called DISCLOSE Act, which House Democrats are reintroducing Thursday. The DISCLOSE act would among other things require more transparency by super PACs in terms of who their donors are.

A Democratic source told CNN their hope is that Colbert responds on his Comedy Central program, in order to get the issue more attention.

This is not the first time Congress has tried to draw on Colbert's popularity to highlight an issue. In September, 2010, A House committee called Colbert to testify on the plight of immigrant workers. Colbert showed up in character – a fake TV host – and the decision to invite him got mixed reviews.

Disclosure will not end the madness that is superPAC. It takes a new supreme court to do so, one that doesn't involve Scalia and Roberts.

It amazes me that some people here seem to think Pelosi isn't in on the joke and that she is seriously taking on Colbert.

It's amusing to see how many people don't realize Pelosi is playing the straight man. Oliver Hardy to Stan Laurel. Crosby to Hope. Abbott to Costello.
Virtually all Stewart and Colbert fans are well versed on Superpacs and dedicated fans are experts. My son is a senior in high school. When Superpacs came up in PolySci, half the class, the Stewart/Colbert fans morfed into a championship debate team and the non-fans were just confused. The next day they watched excerpts of the Daily Show and Colbert Report and all of them now not just know about Superpacs, but understands them.
I ran into his teacher at college night and teased her about watching comedy shows during class time and she said if the School Superintendent ever walks into her classroom, she's going to immediately bring up Superpacs and sit back and watch as the students blow his mind.

Pelosi is such a joke. Why doesn't she repay the taxpayers for her business trips to Rome. Pelosi only brought 22 of closest family and friends at taxpayer expense to help promote business. I would like to see any emoployer say we are sending you on a business trip and to make you two week stay more fun we'll pay for 22 of closest family and friends to go along. Pelosi family has millions $$ she made from the American taxpayer and she had the gall to stiff the taxpayer for not only her vacation but also 22 of her family and friends. Pelosi is a thief.

Pelosi was the best and most productive speaker since Tip O'neill.
She held the democrats together and got her job done, but the senate was like turtle, they could not get to work, much less get anything done.

I will take Pelosi over them all, she is a great person and great politician and can stand her ground with any of them!

Twenty two individuals contributed over 47% of money to Superpacs. And that's just the money that had to be declared. One type of Superpac has no reporting requirement at all. And the ones that do have to report can just take donations from the one that doesn't, and list them as all coming from their affiliated Superpac.
Here's what people don't realize. If these Superpacs choose for us to go to war with Iran, then WE WILL GO TO WAR WITH IRAN. Think of the sales job the Bush Administration did on Iraq and multiply it by 10. They will have the 50%-70% who don't follow the news, or doesn't know the difference between punditry and news digging bomb shelters in their back yards. The Superpacs will be in charge. Not us. Not the government. 22 old men who are used to seeing things done their way rather it makes sense or not.

"My friend Newt Gingrich" That woman is a riot. We no that he won't sue her in court because he can't win as Stephen himself admits "The truth has a liberal bias". Hey, why should Rosanne have all the fun?

Colbert's SUPERPAC idea was to point out how screwed up these PACs are all along. All that this three-toed sloth of a human woman is doing is to validate colbert's point and acheive his goal of pointing out the adsurdity of todays political scene.

Hey Pelosi, why dont you call your buddy Reid over in the senate and suggest the senate Dems do their jobs and send a budget over to the house....over 1000 days now and still no budget from the senate, shameful....they do not want the inconvience of having to defend all the wasteful spending they love so much....what a shame, worse still...if it was a Repub senate doing this the Dems would be screaming and CNN would run a story daily.....as it is, nothing...not a peep, so much for the objective reporting of CNN

Very clever. It shows that the Democrats know how to use humorous satire to their advantage. The strident, dark and often false messages from the stodgy old right wingers are a contrast in pessimism.

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Franks, and Barbara Boxer personify everything that is wrong with politics. They are all completely inept crooks. Barney's quitting so he can marry his boyfriend..ugh...Harry is so old and feeble he should die soon... Nancy and Barb will get thrown out soon...unless their moronic, blind constituents re-elect them again..What a bunch of dopes!

The "Bobble Head" strikes again! Of course, she can afford it from all those millions she has made from the insider stock deals. This excuse of a woman has no shame; neither do the people that keep electing her year after year.

She and the current president are the world's worst pickpockets. Every time they open their lying mouths Americans must hold on tight to their wallets.

I am a life-long Democrat, but thank God for the Republicans that are "TRYING" to keep this crooks in check.
