Political clashes coming over budget, payroll tax cut

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's new chief of staff on Sunday stopped short of predicting Congress would agree to extend the payroll tax cut for the rest of 2012.

The issue, a top priority of the Obama administration and the focus of congressional negotiations in recent weeks, reflects the sharp partisan divide permeating Washington as Obama prepares to unveil his 2013 budget proposal on Monday.

Obama needs to stand his ground, and keep letting the GOP self implode themselves. Most Americans in the middle class feel taxes should be raised on the wealthy. But the GOP doesn't care.

Great opportunity for GOP to stand up and BLOCK this !! Say NO to Payroll TAX cuts!! Only tax cuts should be on the ones making over 250K, since they are the ones creating JOBS.. Not the poor!!

Defeating Obama is more important to the republicans than working together for the good of the U.S.A.

Republicans call it class warfare....Americans call it majority rules. Hold a national vote as to weather to raise taxes on those who have/make the most!! See if Americans think if it's right for people making millions to pay a lesser percentage of income than ditch diggers, trash collectors, bridge builders, servers, police officers, tellers, window washers.... Take democrat and republican out of it,take personality out of it and put what is right and just into it. Wonder what would happen? I think we all know!!!

I don't know if the 160 million workers that this affects will stop buying goods and fueling the economy, but I know that the GOP tax cuts for the wealthy will be put in off shore accounts where it won't be taxed, and that helps save the rich millions of dollars.

Other than the elimination of women's rights, starting a war with Iran, repealing consumer safety regulations, tax breaks for the wealthy, and driving our country into a depression, what else do the lying republicans want?

Republican proposal summed up: more tax cuts for the wealthy, and make seniors and the middle class pay for it!

I am tired of hearing the bs about job creators. They get their rewards!! They have a job and make a decent if not much better wage for their effort...just calling them "job creators" promotes class warfare!!! I know I own a small business and employ 4 people...we depend on eachother to get our work done and are all valued. I don't make over 250k and even if I did I don't want a tax break that isn't shared by those I employ. Our country benefits when we are fully employed, educated and working to help those who can't help themselves ...I am not making reference to the people who are cheating the system . I am saying I am not willing to throw out the deserving with the UNdeserving!!!

Please Republicans don’t extend the pay roll tax
In November we have to give clear idea to middle class
The candidate making $56000 per day paying 13.9% tax
The person making $56000 per year paying more than 13,9% tax

Do you remember the Oil Filter Ad where the spoksman tosses an Oil Filter up in the air and says, Pay a small bit now and change your Oil Filter or pay later and buy a new Engine. Down the road you/we are going to pay. So, if you want your Social Security, you do want your Social Security, don't you?, you need to start paying the rate before this 2 Percent reduction went in place.

And why is it, that too many of you who post here want someone else to clean up after you? Want someone else to pay your freight? The Conservatives gave you all the tools to be suscessful. So get after it ! Don't expect the sucessful to give you a job and then everything else too. Why do you think there are no jobs now? Because you voted wrong!!! The Policitians Taxed the Job Creators too muck so they can't hire anyone else. Wise up!!!

I think it is time that the severely conservative moderate liberal, Mittens, explain his political ideology, Rommunism.

  18. The Greedy Old Pigs declared class war on US!

The only "clash" will be between the GOBP deathcult's desperate attempts to serve their psychopathic corporatist overlords hidden among the 1% while the rest of the nation demands increased taxes on millionaires. Everything else is political theater designed to distract us from the fact the GOBP is ignoring the wishes of 3/4 of America.

LOL! Crazy much, ray? In case you hadn't notice, the entire USA is a toxic waste dump (CDOs, derivatives, etc.) created by your GOBP deathcult. Far from giving us "all the tools to be successful" your clown car cult has undermined and corrupted capitalism, our economy and our government. What happened to being the "party of personal responsibility"? Your whining, lying and claims of victimization puts you all at the emotional level of a preschool.

We lost 8 million jobs in Bush's last three years. He was stupid, so I can't blame him for his lack of leadership. Over the last three years under President Obama, over 3 million jobs have been created, without any help from the republican party.

The opposing positions for paying for extending the payroll tax cuts are very revealing. Obama and the Democrats want to increase taxes and the Republicans want to cut federal spending. Americans made themselves clear in mid-term elections. Cut spending. Obama must have forgot already.

the people that the repos keep saying don't pay taxes are the working poor or people out of work. They are not all just on welfare because they want to. give it a rest most would rather have a good job and pay taxes. But the rich who pay less tax and can afford health care and have good retirements want more. No one cares if they have money just make the tax base fair for all. These first term repo idiots need to start talking about real job creation . The repo goal has always been to get rid of this president. They will all talk themselves out of a job come November. This country needs to move forward. Not backawrds with failed policys. Running the olympic games and running acountry are two different things. Obama/Biden 2012
