(CNN) - On the campaign trail, Newt Gingrich profusely criticizes the bailout of two American automakers, but the candidate admitted in an interview Friday that the program did achieve a measure of success.
"The reality is that the bailout has worked to some extent," Gingrich told CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," before transitioning to his criticism of the program, which began under President George W. Bush and continued under President Barack Obama. "It's also left the union dramatically stronger than it would have been. It has shifted the balance of power inside the companies decisively.
(CNN) - Sen. Dick Lugar, the third most senior member of the Senate, triumphed Friday over challenges to his eligibility to pursue re-election as a candidate from Indiana because he no longer has a home there.
Lugar, who has lived in McLean, Virginia, since the sale of his Indianapolis home in 1977, had insisted that residency was not an issue for him since the Indiana state constitution stipulates he only had to be a resident to run for Senate during his first campaign.

Washington (CNN) - Casino mogul and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson made an expected new contribution this week to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future, CNN has learned.
One source familiar with Adelson's donation described it as "sizeable." Two sources said the Nevada businessman made the contribution recently.

Olympia, Washington (CNN) - GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, an opponent of gay marriage, defended Friday the democratic process by which states are pursuing same-sex marriage legislation.
The Republican presidential candidate and former House speaker is campaigning in Washington state where a same-sex marriage bill was recently passed. The state holds a presidential caucus March 3.

Washington (CNN) - Thousands of newly released e-mails from former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin show her frustration with the increasing ethics complaints filed against her and the mounting legal costs her family was personally incurring.
Also there is one tantalizing e-mail from Sept. 26, 2007 - almost a full year before she was tapped for the unsuccessful GOP presidential ticket - with the subject line saying "Marital Problems." Addressing two of her gubernatorial aides, she said "So speaking of ... If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell 'conflict of interest' accusations about BP?"

(CNN) – Rick Santorum, who returns to the campaign trail Friday evening for the first time since Wednesday's CNN Arizona GOP Presidential Debate, escalated his rhetoric against Mitt Romney in an interview on CNN's The Situation Room.
Asked which team Romney is playing for, Santorum said, "Well, I would say that's the left. I would say that's the problem with Gov. Romney in this election."

(CNN) – Arlen Specter disputed on Thursday Rick Santorum's account of a conversation which Santorum said the two Senate colleagues had ahead of Specter's 2004 campaign for reelection.
At Wednesday's CNN Arizona Republican Presidential Debate, Santorum said he offered his endorsement of fellow Pennsylvanian Specter – which Republicans have criticized – after Specter offered assurances he would support President George W. Bush's judicial nominees. "Every nominee he supported, passed," Santorum said.

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich's tax and budget plans would add $7 trillion to the U.S. debt over the rest of this decade, should he become president and get everything he wants from Congress. Rick Santorum would not fare much better.
Ron Paul's plans, on the other hand, would slowly reduce deficits, based on his idea of ending a host of government agencies, including doing away with the Federal Reserve.
