Maher puts one-million dollars behind pro-Obama Super PAC

Washington (CNN) – Comedian Bill Maher is putting his money where his mouth is.

The comedian and talk show host who has long railed on the weakness of the Republican presidential field announced at a stand up comedy show on Thursday that he would donate $1 million to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Obama Super PAC.

“My surprise tonight is I would like to tonight announce a donation to the Obama Super PAC—which has the very unfortunate tongue-twister name ‘Priority (sic) USA Action’,” Maher said. “I know, it was named by Borat. But tonight I would like to give that PAC one million dollars.”

The concert, which was live streamed on Yahoo!, was held in San Jose, California and was billed by Yahoo! as the first stand-up comedy concert to be streamed live online.

In a tweet after the event, Maher said the announcement was a surprise to the Yahoo! organizers.

“Thank u everybody who's hit me up after the show, and a great San Jose audience. Obama donation was a surprise to Yahoo too fyi!”

Maher, whose comedy show is called “CrazyStupidPolitics,” has not been shy about his opinions of the 2012 race and when he spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper, he said that other than Ron Paul, the Republican candidates running for president have “horrible society killing ideas about America.”

“The rest of those people are, of course, selling their souls to the corporate interests who back them,” Maher said. “They all act like god created the world in January of 2009, and then Barack Obama completely screwed it up.”

When asked in the same interview who he thought was going to win the 2012 election, Maher quickly tapped the president as the eventual winner.

“My money is still on Mitt Romney,” said Maher when asked who the eventual Republican nominee. “And I think he’s going to get the nomination, and then I think Obama is going to beat him like a runaway sister wife, yes, I do.”

Maher’s million dollar donation will substantially boost the coffers of the Super PAC which raised only $58,815.83 in January, according to a report filed earlier in the week with the Federal Election Commission.

- CNN’s Matthew Carey contributed to this report.

Should we expect anything else from this loud mouth moron?! Obamamites, keep laughing at this idiots jokes and disparaging remarks. You ALL may get a rude awakening, SOON!!!

Talking about fairyland, comedians and other actors/actresses wannabes; have you observed the resemblance between the president and the ass in the movie Shrek? Man, their mannerisms, their moves, their actions are so similar it's mind boggling.

Oh well, the president has always wanted to be a performer rather than perform the job of president of the USA.

"Who would have expected anything different from this hate filled hypocritical religious bigot? He's the poster child for what the Democrat left is.'
Well, I don't think you could be farther from the Truth. First of all, Mr. Maher has repeatedly said he is an atheist. Secondly, the only hate-filled hypocritical religious bigots are jockeying for position in the GOP race.

"Bill Maher had better hope there is not a hell because if there is, the hottest corner of it has been reserved for him."

Oh come on now...and here I thought that corner was supopsed to be reserved for women who use contraception or have an abortion and was heated by burning gay people....

Keep hating on Bill, at least he lives in the real world where snakes don't tell women to do bad things.
Many of you would be embarrassed if you had any idea how truly silly you sound.
But then again, you are entertaining...

"i agree Willard is damaged goods and can never decide what side of the fence he should be on from day to the next!"

Perhaps the fact that he's been straddling it for so long explains why his mannerisms are so robotic and awkward.

I know Republicans detest Bill Mahr because he speaks his mind, especially about religion. They have a double standard and todays politics is a perfect example of how they are infringing their beliefs on everyone else. They talk about government being too big yet they want to intrude on a woman's relationship with her doctor, about who has a valid and loving relationship. It also confuses me how people can profess to be Christian, yet are against healthcare for all, extending unemployment benefits, free lunches for poor children, support cutting college funding and education in general, so I'm confused, these are Christian principals?

to areyou4real – really do you really think and believe what you have written – I happen to be an Episcopalian but I would rather have Mr. Maher on my side any day than anyone of the religious nut cases who call themselves Christian and then go about doing evil thinks in the name of their religion – give me a break

Bill Mahar has ALWAYS taken swings at both Republicans and Democrats...but as an objective Canadian concerned about what's occurring in our great neighbour to the south – and given the laughable, often distressing nature of the last few Republican debates on television – I feel Mahar had no choice BUT to offer his financial support to the Dems. Your current president inherited an appalling mess after 8 years of Bush Jr. mismanagement; your economy is now slowly on the upswing...why on Earth would your derail your country's own recovery? Best of luck to you all.

He has always been with Obama in attacking, demeaning and diminishing the hard working, tax paying citizens of this country and he is certainly part of the leftist elites trying to bring this country down, now he like George Soros is putting up the money to help destroy the country by reelecting the most incompetent, inept, corrupt, union toady president we have ever had. The only thing unusual about that is it would seem to be his own money rather than tax money, but I am sure Obama will pay him back with tax money just like he did the corrupt union bosses.

Voting is like driving: Vote (R) to go backwards, and (D) to move forwards.
Ignorance spews from the mouths (or in this case, the typing fingers) of conservatives. Thank you for offering further evidence of the ignorance of the politically conservative voice. The Republican Party: Your bridge to the 18th Century.

are you4 real? - Well, I don't think you could be farther from the Truth. First of all, Mr. Maher has repeatedly said he is an atheist
And have you ever heard his hate filled diatribes against people who believe in religion? His anti-religion zealotry is no less a "religion". He worships at the alter of HATE. Why is hate speech against people of religion, using Catholics and/or Christians tolerated? Is this worthless loser had any gonads he'd spew his hate about Islam. But of course he won't and will only attack those that do not fight back. Come on Maher, I DARE you! Attack and insult Muslims the way you do others of religious beliefs.
