(CNN) – Ann Romney defended her husband Friday against former President Bill Clinton who said Mitt Romney's stance on the auto bailout has his father "turning over in his grave."
"Mitt's father would be cheering and would be with Mitt 100%," Ann Romney said on Fox News. "What Mitt suggested, what's finally what happened, is that they just went through a structured bankruptcy. It's exactly what ended up happening. Mitt just said to do that before they spent $17 billion."

During a speech this week to the United Auto Workers National Community Action Program Conference, Clinton said "Every time I hear Mr. Romney talk about this, I think his daddy must be turning over in his grave."
But Ann Romney was defiant in her stance.
"No, Mitt's father would be cheering, cheering with Mitt," she added.
Romney's father, the late George Romney was an American Motors executive and three-term governor of Michigan.
The younger Romney repeatedly defended his stance toward the auto bailout while campaigning for the Michigan primary, which he won Tuesday night.
The former Massachusetts governor opposed the federal bailout put in motion by former President George W. Bush and continued by President Barack Obama and instead advocated for a managed bankruptcy.
“What Mitt suggested, what's finally what happened, is that they just went through a structured bankruptcy” Ann Romney
What Mitt suggested is “IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.”
Totally different
Thank goodness she has no chance of being our next Secretary of Commerce. The fact that they HAD the $17 billion underpinning them ALLOWED them to go through a structured bankruptcy. Banks don't allow companies to get any type of credit during a bankruptcy unless they have some form of assets or guarantee of future assets. The $17 billion served as a bridge loan and, in fact, it worked.
Wow so they are trying to rewrite history now?
My suggestion to the Mitt campaign. It is better to stand by your stance "to let Detroit go bankrupt", then to pretend as if you meant something else.
Voters hate flip floppers, but they will stand (as George W. Bush experienced) with a politician who stays the course even when they are wrong.
The Romney's are really keen on doubling down when they are wrong. Romney was just flat out wrong.
i appreciate that fact that mrs. romney enthusiastically supports her husband, but she clearly has no idea of what the truth of this matter really is. it has be painful to see the man [or husband] be one of such compromised positional stances. it's one thing for one's position to change as a principled necessity for the better of all, but mitty-mitt has no principles. he's nothing more than an greedy empty suit who learned how to play the get rich game at the expence of those most vulnerable. that pretty much sums up the republican party these days, as most clearly driven by incoherent policy positions, bigotry or worse, consistently vote against their own interest; but to what end? the establishment will make certain that mitt is their nominee, because he will do and say whatever [they] want him to. For a price of course.
So, is Mrs Romney saying that the auto loans were the right thing to do? I mean, since it allowed them to restructure and get back to profitability WITHOUT the mass layoffs and furloughs that usually come with restructuring during bankruptcy???
Sounds like Mrs. Romney is practicing a little revisionist history on Mr. Romney's position. IIRC, the "structured bankruptcy" option would had to have happened much earlier, and GM chose not to. So Mrs. Romney's point is inapplicable. Should GM have gone into bankruptcy? Maybe. But they didn't and the bailout was the best, if not the only, option left – short of having them go out of business...as Mr. Romney clearly stated and supported.
Shes as clueless as her husband! She needs to pull her magic underwear out of her butt and go away! What she just said is an absolute LIE! I thought mormons where taught to not lie?
Ann Romney has class and a lot of it! I think Ohio needs to get away from the notion that Santorum is the guy. He's totally against women's rights and he is a dictator just like they have in countries we are fighting. Think, folks before you jump of the bridge. Romeny is the man for the job. Look at the way, Santorum speaks to you like you are ignorant and he's soooo superior. He's bad news in my opinion.
Looks like she wears the pants in that family. Ann Romney wants to take over the debates and now respond to the the critics. Not the sign of a good leader.
We do not need a lubricated wind vane in the WH. Please tell your husband to get out of MY womb!
I think Ann should be running, and not hubby Mitt, she obviously is the smarter of the two! Maybe a brokered convention to bbring her in?
Good job Ann. I like Bill Clinton but he should stick to giving speeches.
None of the Romneys can spin this! we all know what mitt stands for on this issue...he can flip all he wants...wont work!
Why is this fool even talking. She and Cindy McCain combine have the brain of a peanut!
who cares what this brainwashed baby popping woman has to say. She just spouts off what ever her husband and the church wants her to. Yes master Mitt.Just go drive one of your cadillacs and leave the stupid remarks to your husband.
Why doesn't Ann run for president?
Maybe she won't flip-flop as much as her husband does.
Won`t Slick Willie Clinton just hurry up and cease to exist? Nobody cares what the liar thinks.
Do you think Ann Romney knows that the 17 billion dollars was a loan and was paid back with interest? I'm sure she does, but like Mitt and all other Republicans she can't admit that because she is looking to blame Obama and not give him the credit for doing what was right.
Why doesn't she just go back to ordering her expensive horses and running her GRAND mansions? The whole family makes me sick.
Yeah, it appears the Democrats are now the EXPERTS when it comes to bankruptcy since they have caused so many over the last 4 years and are driving the country to one in the next 5 years.
Good that the Romneys are defending their oppostion to the auto bail out...shows that they are for the Wall Street 1% haves and against the 99% working class. Romney is so out of touch with the working middle class.
Go Ann! I don't know how Bill Clinton has any credibility at all after all that he has done.
1) Ann...Your hubby should be able to stand on his two feet. 2) Go back to your home waste hours on Pinterest.
