Initially silent, Romney addresses Limbaugh ‘slut’ remarks

Cleveland, Ohio (CNN) - Mitt Romney steered clear of the Rush Limbaugh controversy until Friday evening, even avoiding a CNN reporter earlier in the day, when he addressed the issue after an event in Cleveland.

“I'll just say this which is it’s not the language I would have used," Romney said. "I’m focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today and that’s why I’m here talking about jobs and Ohio.”

After an event in Bellevue, Washington, CNN asked Romney for a comment on Limbaugh who called Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" after she testified before Congress on the importance of insurance coverage of contraception.

The former Massachusetts governor was within a few feet of CNN's camera when he was asked the question. But Romney walked by without comment.

Limbaugh ignited a political firestorm Wednesday when he suggested Fluke's support of contraception coverage was an attempt to force Americans to pay for her sexual activities.

"It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex," Limbaugh said.

Romney's main rival for the GOP nomination, Rick Santorum called Limbaugh's comments "absurd" in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

– CNN Political Producer Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

Limbaugh is nothing but a fat, hipocritical, drug addict. He's been married 4 times and thinks he has some right to judge someone else's morals???? The whole GOP is a bunch of losers for allowing this useless gasbag to be their voice. I would love to boycott his sponsors, but that means I would have to watch his show to see who is sponsors are. I hope someone posts a list and saves me that torture.

I am really disappointed with Romney. He does not have the courage of Santorum. I have been thinking of supporting Romney, but he is so bad in this case. Why he is so afraid of Limbaugh? How could he be president if he is so afraid of a commentator.

He has plenty of motive to stay silent. So long as he doesn't take sides, he doesn't have to risk losing the Rush followers that would vote for him. Conservatives need to realize that Rush is a threat to them as well–his radical talk risks dividing the GOP.

Mitt Romney is no leader. He is a coward who panders to the point of view that gains him most mileage. He is a shell of a man who has no soul. He is the worst kind os politician that America defintely does not need to follow.

Actually I'm pretty sure Romney just didn't hear the question. Maybe the CNN reporters should speak a little louder

Mittens has no comment because he utterly lacks the sort of moral compass which would tell him that Limbaugh's comments are unacceptable. Any man with any level of respect for women should be outraged at Limbaugh's slanderous and outrageous comments. I hope Ms. Fluke has a brother or father who beats the Pillsbury Doughboy to death.

All the hupla about what the fat man said is music to his ears. That is how he make his money. His listeners are opsessed with this guy and what ever he says is music to their ears. This has been going on for years, his like the Pope of the radical right and the republican party will never confront him. God bless America all the nuts among us.All I know if it was not for the pill, I would have had a whole bunch of kids and child suport payments.

I wish Rush Limbaugh would go the way of Andrew Breitbart. Seriously. In my opinion, it's way overdue.

Romney is a weak leader. He says and does whatever he thinks will get him votes. How much courage does it take to say what Rush said was inappropriate and vulgar. Romney would be a terrible president he is just weak kneed.

A lot of Romney's "income" is from Bain Capital (part-owner of the radio group that lets Limbaugh say all the outrageous things he says).

Such a coward statement from an loser candidate! He did not disnouce the actions, he was obviously to afraid to go against the "grain" and stand up for what he know is right. I guess because Romney has all sons, he is not partiicularly "concerned about women" either! Talk about the baseless "appeasement" attacks against Obama, is an understatement for how they sit in silence everytime one of their own is wrong. I can tell you one thing, two wrongs don't make a right because their silence is telling!

Romney stopped short of condemning Limbough's insane, perverted remarks because he needs the insane pervert vote to win the GOP nomination.
