BREAKING: Obama: 'We have a window of opportunity' with Iran
(CNN) - "We have a window of opportunity" in which Iran's nuclear situation can be resolved diplomatically, President Barack Obama said Tuesday in his first formal news conference since last year.
"It is deeply in everybody's interest - the U.S., Israel and the world - to see if (the Iranian nuclear situation) can be resolved in a peaceful fashion," Obama added.
Asked to elaborate on his Monday statement that the United States "will always have Israel's back," Obama said, "historically, we have always cooperated with Israel with respect to the defense of Israel, just like we do with a whole range of other allies ... It was not a military doctrine that we were laying out for any particular military action."
As for the ongoing unrest in Syria, the U.S. taking unilateral military action in response to the situation, "or to think that somehow, there is some simple solution, I think is a mistake," the president said.
The inadvertent burning of Qurans at Afghanistan's Bagram Air Field, and the violent protests that followed, "concern me," Obama said. "I think that it is an indication of the challenges in that environment, and it's an indication that now is the time for us to transition (power to the Afghans)."

Sharlene – Please update yourself on historical precedents and what is happening in this region. As to North Korea they are suspending their nuclear program and allowing inspections. The Islamic Republic of Iran's motivation is to destabilize the region and engulf the Middle East in a regional war with international repercussions. They are openly supporting Syria and terrorism – not sure we want us to face a nuclear threat from this group so preventing it from becoming fact is sufficient motivation to act before this occurs.

Iran states loud and clear: first Israel , then USA. They are winning time and the world is repeating the mistakes of 1939. Later it will cost more to win, but it will have to happen.

No, we don't reemmber that at all. Shoulder fired missles cannot reach Israel from Iraq. Get serious.
Saddam launched SCUDs. Israel is at the limit of thier range from Iraq. SCUDs are small to medium range missles. Iran has tried to demonstrate their prowess with long range missles. Most of them failed to launch properly. Those that did launch only reached the Persian Gulf.

If GOP/ Mitt wants to go on war with Iran then how many of his kids, Santoram and Gingrich's kids and Michelle Bachmann's kids are they ready to dispatch in the first batch? The President will be RIGHT on spot at this time, again.
Not in anyone's wildest dreams can Iran be trusted. To issue sanctions is futile. Obama attempts to make a pact with the devil and thinks he'll win. Don't have to go to war in Iran to destroy their nuclear capability. We have weapons that can eliminate any hope of their development of nuclear weapons, without a single boot touching the ground.
To answer Politicsjoy, the middle class has never been as bad off as they are under Obama. Never in the history of the country. He has taken hope away and offers gov't dependency (a broke gov't) in return. He has been over his head since day one. All he has is a teleprompter to read. What do intelligent people do with a President who has no trust worthiness? VOTE HIM OUT!

So you have a problem with President Obama's judgement? Well, perhaps you like GWB's judgement? Two deadly and costly wars and the worst economic crisis in America since the Great Depression? And perhaps you have a problem with the judgement our President used in sending our Navy SEALS after OBL and Awalaki? Or perhaps you have a problem with our President's judgement in not committing US troops to Libya or in compromising with the rightwing leadership in congress to avert a government shutdown four times in one year? And so on and so on. And what if a peaceful resolution with Iran's nuclear program is about to be reached in the 11th hour and we bombed them in the 10th hour? Seriously, you really have a problem with our President's judgement? Really? You haven't learned anything from our WMD blunders that has destabilized Iraq for a hundred years?
Better talk than fight. If I were the president of Iran, with all the warmongering and threats , I would want a nuke ASAP. They probably bought it from North Korea and if attached Iran will use it and say it was the Will Of God .Amen.
One more expensive war and our economy will completely fold in the near future. The tyrants in the US government need to chill out before they destroy our republic.
