‘Joe the Plumber’ wins GOP primary in Ohio

(CNN) - Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known as "Joe the Plumber," won Tuesday's Republican primary in Ohio's 9th Congressional District, according to unofficial vote results from the Ohio Secretary of State.

With 100% of precincts reporting, Wurzelbacher bested opponent Steven Kraus to become the GOP nominee and will face Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur, the longest serving woman in the House of Representatives, in the fall.

Kaptur defeated longtime Rep. Dennis Kucinich in a closely-watched Democratic primary Tuesday that pitted the two incumbents against each other after the state redrew its lines in a redistricting battle.

Wurzelbacher rose to GOP fame in 2008 when he challenged then-presidential candidate and Sen. Barack Obama over his small business tax plan.

The confrontation quickly became a popular anecdote in the presidential election and was frequently used as a campaign message by then-Republican presidential candidate and Sen. John McCain and his then-running mate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The plumber-turned-celebrity has since capitalized on his popularity by writing a book and making media and campaign appearances.

What has America come to??? Whatever happened to you had to earn your American dream?? Not to knock plumbers but to think about this incompetent guy making laws about budgets, education, healthcare etc....I'm with no party association but for goodness sake GOPees this anti education sentiment has got to stop. Let's get back to math and science before we all go down the drain. I support Obama but I don't mind if he loses as long as the other guy is competent and serious and with a fair plan with some math behind it. Given who is running on the GOP side i would say if Romney or sanatorium win. Whooowee god help us.

Seriously Ohio? You are supporting a plumber? Not that I have any issue with plumbers. I'm friends with a few of them and I've noticed there is typically a certain type of person who becomes a plumber. Good people, but they wouldn't make good politicians.

See, you really dont have to know anything to get elected in this country. That's why my pal Rush is so popular – just run your mouth long enough and idiots will think you know something.
