Obama and Romney ahead in ad fight

(CNN) – The most aired political ads of the 2012 election cycle prove it's a battle between President Barack Obama and Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney, at least when it comes to television advertising.

The five spots run most during the presidential campaign include commercials from the Obama re-election campaign, a Republican super PAC, the Romney campaign, a pro-Romney super PAC and the Democratic National Committee, according to a report from the Campaign Media Analysis Group (CMAG).

"The top five, while arguably not surprising, serve as a reminder of the general election campaign that awaits beyond all the state-by-state delegate math and discussion of GOP base issues," CMAG Vice President Elizabeth Wilner said. "Taken together, the ads focus mainly on economic and ethics themes."

The pro-Obama commercial, "Unprecedented," took the top spot with 6,190 views to date. The ad, which went on the air in January, sought to defend the president's record on jobs and ethics and issue a counter attack to criticism over Solyndra.

"Shovel Ready," sponsored by the conservative super PAC Crossroads GPS, went on the air in June 2011. It targeted Obama's economic record and aired 5,057 times.

The positive "Moral Responsibility" ad from the Romney campaign, narrated by the candidate, is still airing on television with 5,006 viewings to date.

"Values," a spot from the super PAC supporting Romney's candidacy, criticized rival candidate Rick Santorum over votes he cast while representing Pennsylvania in Congress. It aired 4,650 times and on television.

The Democratic National Committee promoted Obama's jobs plan, using footage from his address to Congress in September 2011, in "14 Months," which aired 4,387 times.

Just wait until the world gets a look at the 17 minute video about Mitt Romney next week. I think it will be an expose on the issues that Mitt Romney continues to refuse to talk about, namely his actual record. Mitt Romney has just as much of a legitimate claim to being a "job creator" as Bank of America.

Romney offers no proof beyond his stump speeches, "I'm experienced. I'm a job creator." Prove it, Mr. Romney, by showing us where your personal hand made a difference. He also claims, "I know how to get this economy going again. I will cut the deficit. I will cut the debt. I will balance the budget."

How on Earth does he plan to balance the budget? Ron Paul claims he will cut a trillion dollars but doesn't say where. That claim comes across as extremist talk to most people. Mitt Romney's tax cuts would *add* trillions of dollars of annual debt in the form of reduced revenue. Romney would need to cut a trillion dollars just to get us back to where we are now. Then he would need to cut another trillion to even come close to balancing the budget. Where can he cut two trillion dollars annually?

There is a weird guy posting that 401Ks are being wiped out. That happened from 2007 – the end of 2008. The market under our president has risen from under 7000 to almost 13,000. Even to a republican, that should be a no brainer, but . . .

Mittens will be soundly rebuked in November. I just hope he burns through some of his own money. His big donors are maxed out and he has virtually no base of small doners (around 9% last time I looked). The GOP, a party lacking purpose, direction of basic comportment. And agree mctampa, the whole women's health issue has hurt them badly.

I don't know why Obama feels that he needs to run ads against Mitt. Even if Mitt wins the GOP nomination, he will implode on his own record.

Of course Obama will set records in campaign spending trying to buy his way out of 3 years of missed goals and nasty politics. But when all is said and done, American voters will see past the Hollywood campaign and vote for responsible management of the federal government. Obama lost the Independents with his far left policies and his partisan political priorities. He blew the confidence they gave him in 2008. Romney 2012.

So true about Romney's boasts that are without merit let alone verifiable backup. Glad to see that someone is taking a closer look and exposing Romney for what he is–an egotistical plutocrat who will lie and change his story to fit his audience so that he can get their vote. He is a panderous preditor that needs to be stopped. If his fabricated stories and personality don't sink him, then his foreign policy talk will for sure. Does he really think that parking large chunks of military hardware in the straight of Hormuz will make Iran pack up its military hardware and head home? No way. In fact, if Romney is elected president, then Iran will develop a nuke just so they can launch it at Washington DC
    to get rid of him.

Romney is so disconnected from average Americans because he does not care. What he loves most is power and money. The proof is in the deals he made when he was head of Bain Capital. You cannot close that many companies knowing that you are taking peoples' livellihoods for your personal gain and actually care about people.

Our government is supposed to be "...for the people," so how can you vote for a man who has proven he is only for himself?

You have it wrong. Santorum is getting all of his strength from the strong conservative voters. Romney is the Republican who can win big ( i'e., including a House, Senate and Governor races on his popularity ) because he is more moderate and appeals to Independents. Obama is anything but moderate. He has shown the problems trying to govern from the left, especially when the economy is important. But conservative voters will still support Romney in a General election.

@Disabled Vet,,,,ummmm, you have the math almost right. November 2008, gas $1.89 and less 4 trillion deficit after 8 years. 2012, Gas $6.00 and less (as of today) and 4+ trillion MORE debt, in less than 4 years. Anybody but Obama in 2012, even Rudy NYC would be a better choice.

I haven't seen the ads, but don't really need to! The way the GOP-TP has been treating half of the population, this year & last, it is obvious they don't want or need my vote! I can't support any party platform that wants to send womens rights back to the last turn of the century, when we had none! Obama/Biden next 4!!

    ===========================================================================================
14 Months??? Isn't that the average length of time people have been unemployed with Obama? Or is it the number of months he has taken vacations?

Obama told the American people if we just spent a TRILLION dollars we could spend our way to prosperity and a 6% unemployment rate at this time and unemployment would not get above 8%. So how has he done? Unemployment shot up to over 10% (far higher in many states) and today sits over 8%, a line they was never to be crossed in the first place. And our kids and grand kids have a TRILLION more in debt (PLUS interest) to pay back to the Chinese.

FAILURE on EVERY point. And the country CONTINUES to rack up trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see under Obama. Obama has put the pedal to the metal and pointed us towards bankruptcy. Greece is what Obama has in store for this country.

Huh? Really? You get rich by investing in companies and closing them? This I gotta hear because so many people are wasting their time and money then trying to make companies successful. Okay, end sarcasm now.

Mitt got wealthy by fixing broken companies. So many things can go wrong with businesses it is difficult work. But he is very intelligent and talented and tens of thousands of employees at companies like Michaels, Gymboree, Burlington Coat Factory, Toys R Us, AMC Entertainment and Bright Horizons are thankful for Bain Capital for the success they enjoy right now. Romney 2012!

    Please, stop rewriting history.

Gas does not cost $6.00 in the US, and never has. In 2008, a barrel of was selling at prices that are roughly 50% higher [$147) than what we see today ($102). Gas sold at a national average of around $4.50 per gallon in 2008. Then the financial crisis hit, and global demand dropped while global production didn't. Some say that the price of oil dropped because we saw supply and demand at work. That may be so. I think the price drop had more to do with all of the oil speculators that got put out of jobs, and the ones the remained were under close scrutiny.

The rise in prices to past levels is merely an indication of market forces at work. Demand is growing as the global economy struggles to recover, and those speculators struggle to make up for lost time.
