GOP quick to criticize president over jobs report

Washington (CNN) - National Republicans were quick to attack the White House over the February jobs report.

Just ten minutes after the Labor Department reported Friday that the nation's unemployment level remained unchanged last month at 8.3%, with 227,000 jobs created, the Republican National Committee issued a press released on the report, which arguably showed the most important economic numbers in the battle for the White House.

"Today's jobs report is yet another reminder that far too many Americans are out of work, and the situation is clearly not improving. Millions of families continue to feel the pain of the sluggish Obama economy and the rising cost of gas, groceries, and healthcare. They are still waiting on President Obama to keep his promise of an economic recovery," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will hold campaign events Friday morning in Alabama and Mississippi and are expected to speak out on the jobs report.

President Barack Obama will most likely comment on the unemployment report as well during a manufacturing event later in Virginia.

Obama could waive a magic wand and make everything perfect immediately and the GOP would accuse him of witchcraft.

GOPTP will continue their baseless thought even if it has clearly shown that the country in heading to right direction. GOPTP believes that they can take the credit for something nothing to show for. Strongly believe in Obama 2012.

What gives you the impression that the President will serve more than two terms? What conspiracy website have you been on now?

No matter how you spin this, the economic trend is good. Both sides are going to play political football. The economy has averaged 250 thousand jobs the last 3 months and this breeds confidence whether you believe the numbers or not. I still believe President Obama is not totally safe for re-election. There are still close to 13 million people out of work, gas is high, and there are economic questions in Europe. If the trend continues into the summer and unemployment drops below 8%, then President Obama's chances of re-election are stronger. If the unemployment rate gets at 7.5% and the GOP criticizes him (they have that right), they would lose significant ground among independents and moderate voters because they will only be speaking to their base who vehemently oppose Obama. It also energizes the Democratic base with criticism against the President on this jobs report. It energizes particulary African Americans and young people because they are the most loyal to the President.

I wonder if greeting good economic news with hissing and booing is very helpful to the GOP cause – or if there might be a backlash.

So there are some things that the GOP can do quickly – like hate the President.

  10. vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

I guess Republicans think that a majority of Americans are STUPID and agreed some are. So with a jobs report that shows higher numbers of jobs created than last month where they could not be critical they are looking for a cloud in the silver lining this month. Let's see bad numbers it's Obama's fault, good numbers well it's not due to ANYTHING Obama has done. Many more are starting to see through this and the constant GOP whine is falling on more deaf ears.

The U.S. government just notched its highest ever monthly deficit, with the red rink running to an estimated $229 billion in February. Which can only mean austerity measures ahead for the US...

I think Thomas needs to take a history lesson! The cold hard facts of life are that things are improving and they would be improving even more if President Obama hadn't been held hostage by this do-nothing Congress who I have no doubt will pay for the error of their ways this November.
